The affected products may contain small pieces of metal. [More:]I am now afraid to eat any and all foods.

Metal! First botulism, and now metal!
They're trying to cash in on The Simpsons movie! If it's good enough for Krusty Os to have bits of metal in, it's good enough for Sara Lee.

I'm guessing it went something like this:

"Hey! The mixer arm on the #7 vat is busted!"

"OMG!!! When did that happen?!"

"Well, I just noticed it."

"When was the last time it was inspected?"

"Tuesday, last week."

"Ew. We've shipped a crapload of bread since then. Better call the FDA."
:(

It could have happened at Bimbo too. There is a Bimbo bakery right down the street from me (used to be Mrs. Baird's before the buyout). There used to be an old-timey Baird's Bakery downtown that used make driving through Fort Worth smell like walking through grandma's kitchen. Yum.

The new bakery is right next to the Miller Brewery, so you're never quite sure if that's the good yeasty smell of the bakery or the bad yeasty smell of stale beer...

Once a week my dad would take us to the Hostess plant to buy us cheap bread for the week. Every time we would beg & beg for HoHo's and those awesome chocolate cupcakes.

We make our own bread these days. We want our metal to be familiar in our food.

For me it's the occasional loaf of Orowheat or I bake my own. I found that my local Costco makes good batards with garlic – much better than your average supermarket bakery.

The old-style bakeries which existed through the 20th century in my town have long been closed. A trendy new one with coffee shop opened about ten years ago and has been successful, but their quality is mediocre and prices are high.

Between this and the kitchen post, MetaChat is making me hungry today.
