an office anecdote. [More:]

so all day yesterday and half of today i was working on a vast copy / binder assembly job that required, among other things, making many, many copies on 3-hole punch paper.

the copy room that gets used the least in this particular office is over by the IT department, strangely enough. however there is still the odd person or 2 printing jobs as i'm running copies.

herein lies a tale.

so for some reason (perhaps the onset of age-related dementia; it's an older machine) this particular network printer/copier doesn't 'release' its paper routing back to the main (plain) paper drawer after running my 3-hole punch job(s), which is what any normal, non-senile machine should do. instead it happily prints any successive jobs that come up on 3-hole punch paper, until such time as one catches it and whacks the 'reset' button. this can be no big deal, or frustrating, depending on who sent the print job and what it was.

so this morning, as i headed over to pick up one of my completed jobs, i heard one of the IT guys quip to his buddy over the cube wall: "yo S! your email's full of holes, dude!!"

S, being a raffish sort, chose to take this metaphorically (as opposed to literally); i.e. as a slam upon his writing skills... and feigned outrage.

hilarity, mild profanity and a round of paper airplanes ensued.

it felt *exactly* like being in the midst of a live action MeTa thread gone wonky.

my colleagues are nuts, and i love the english language. that is all.
*throws virtual paper airplane*

What do you guys think wonky/wonk means? To me it means geeky in a wordy and knowledge based kind of way. My job/department is described as wonky. I am an insurance wonk. Among other things, of course.

As I've heard it, wonk = what you just described, but wonky = not working well. "On the fritz", as we used to say.

Apatheism (a portmanteau of atheism and apathy) || It's a full moon and a Friday night. Went out for a walk tonight.
