20 July 2007

ThePinkSuperhero finally has her copy of "Harry Potter" She just called. She's got the book in her sweaty little hands. Our long national nightmare is over. Read, you fabulous fool, read! [More:]Hopefully, when her children's literature lust is sated, we'll get the full story of being trapped between Angry Soccer Moms and developmentally disabled fans all day.
My copy should arrive in the mail tomorrow.

The brother and I are going in two shifts: he'll read during the day, I'll read at night.

Haaaaa, you are a hot dog, ColdChef. I only called because you were texting me every 5 minutes!

And yes, I've already finished. And NO, I will not tell you what happens. Read it yourself.

And I wasn't trapped on the corner of Nerd St. and Angry Mom Ave for long- 5, 10 minutes, maybe? The rest of the night I got to chill with relaxed, happy, excited people. The whole night was great. I loved it.

Funny moment from after midnight: all of the registers had been decked out with beautiful cardboard cutouts of Gringotts Registers ( the wizard bank), complete with little piles of gold coins all around. When I got to the front, they were ripping them down- they were so tall, nobody could see over them.

Were the bookstore workers wearing those plastic HP glasses?

Did they hand out HP temporary tattoos?

I got my copy at 12.35, got home and started reading at 1a. Finished at 6a. Bawled through most of 4.30a - 6a. Tired.

I didn't see any glasses or temporary tattoos, but they may have been handing those out elsewhere- once I got to the 2nd floor, I was happy to stay put (especially once they closed the escalators, and I had to stay up).

Maybe the glasses and temporary tattoos are just for libraries. Or, maybe more likely, the bookstore employees are hording them.

Yeah, I finished last night and went straight to bed and only woke up a short while ago.

I, too, cried through most of the last 100 pages.

Oh yes, much crying.

We had a book reserved. . .daughter decided it was below her to go, so wife said, OK. . .stay home then. She and I went to U of O bookstore, with a bunch of college kids being in the majority. Very festive, including about 750 people reading together a "no spoiler" pledge. Lots of screaming just before and after midnight.

Of course, wife softened and gave it to Daughter, who read into the night and is almost done. She'll read it tomorrow in the lawnchair while we wait for Colin and the gang to play in Portland. . .then I'll get sloppy thirds.

Fun night, though.

Not having had plans to buy the book at all, I spoilerwhored online. The wank is hard and fast with this one.

I'll probably leech my sister's copy when she next visits home.

This was the third HP release party I had to work (plus my first for the company I work for now), but it was probably my favorite. When people came into the store, I got to assign what house they belonged in utilizing what little knowledge of HP that I had (I haven't read the books yet).

Our book giving process was even really efficient, clearing the store by 12:30, as people could pay between 9 and midnight, get something to mark they deserved a copy and then exchange that for a book after 12:01.

Finally finished the book. I thought I would pull an all-nighter zipping through it and suffer through the book hangover, but couldn't bring myself to do it. I wanted it to last a little while longer. Now I wait anxiously for my friend to finish so we can de-brief...
