The Internet Table of Elements Not only is this NOT the first time somebody has done this by a long shot... (And Nikolai Nolan in 1999 actually used the original periodic table's abbreviations) but it is missing a very important element.[More:] Can you guess what it is?

(this is MY creation, not Wellington Grey's)

Of course, we should also have an element for MetaChat...

In fact, back in the day Nikolai followed up his "web.elements" with "blog.elements" (and I was at #91 with an early version of my blog at the domain I lost in '02)

It's very odd to see some of the other sites that are included, with MeFi excluded. So ... I guess I'm the only person for whom MeFi and MeCha are the sun, the moon and the stars of the web? Maybe I have a problem.

I've been around this series of tubes a long time, and there're a few "elements" on that chart that I've never heard of. But I think the outliers are this guy's personal faves -- they're central to his particular tube, so of course they're in the table. He's probably never been to MeFi.

Heh, thanks for that, wendell. I forgot that I was Hg! And I (or at least Nikolai) was still using the WWA address that went obsolete when they were merged out of existence.

But MeFi has never even been a top 1000 website. I don't know quite why that is (I mean, I know why places like boing boing are...). On the other hand it isn't something we've sought and there was that long period when we capped membership because it really was a problem to have too many new people at once (culturally as well as technically).
