10 July 2007

a fistful of euros my last post of the day i swear.
What would you do with a sudden wad of cash falling in your lap?[More:]
Say 500 whatevers.

me, i'd get a comp mic, a tablet, and a gorilla pod. Oh, and a working camera or a new battery for the old one.

Not that i have it nor would i be being responsible with it like paying bills.
I'd buy some beer.

I'd pay the bills. Or get the ring the BF gave me sized.
posted by youngergirl44 10 July | 18:21
This is if you don't pay bills or debt with it or buy things you already would buy.

i couldn't say hookers and blow if i was already getting hookers and blow.

Pay off a debt I incurred when my father died :-(

500? PSIII and some games.
posted by crush-onastick 10 July | 18:23
Let's just say you get free gas with purchase and a months respite on everything.
posted by ethylene 10 July | 18:24
Honestly i'd pay off debt and bills, happy?
Or drugs and corsetry.

Fly to Boston.
posted by Fuzzbean 10 July | 18:32
Put some of it toward our upcoming vacation, buy a couple of bottles of wine for said vacation, and prolly blow the rest on music. Or, y'know, pay a few bills.

500 dollars? I'd finish paying off my credit card debt a little faster. Yes, I've turned into the most boring person on earth.

(Either that, or I'd splurge on a "pinup for a day" photo session that we were talking about here! Which perhaps means I'm not so boring after all.)

I'm not sure how many books $500 would get me, but dammit, that's exactly what I would aim to find out.

I'd take my friends out for a mighty good time.

500 whatevers

500 Indonesian rupiah will buy:

- one fried vegetable snack
- two plastic cups of water
- one 1-kilometer ride in an angkot
- 1/32 of a postage stamp to send a postcard to America

I might get a job in Latvia if my interview on Friday goes well next week; 500 Latvian lats will buy:

- a round-trip ticket from Riga to New York
- a lot of amber jewelry
- a ride or 10 on this thing, which is like 94% of the reason I want to move there

I changed my mind. These things are going for $1.10 for 200 gross; imagine the deal I could get with 500 dollars in my hand. Why, I could corner the platic black fly market! Then I'd get some respect.

500? Hrrmmmm. Weekend trip to Baltimore. Saturday: baseball tickets, beer at baseball, crabcakes, and lots of beer at Brewer's Art. Sunday: my favorite diner (Sip and Bite), aquarium tickets, more seafood, icecream in Fell's point.
posted by gaspode 10 July | 19:14
Or i'd get a video camera.
i could make documentaries and take us all on road trips.
posted by ethylene 10 July | 19:31
Or just road trip.
i really need to go on a trip. It's been ages.

Might be just the push I need to book that Vegas Vacation. Oh how I so want to lounge by the pool at the Flamingo with strawberry daquiris, stuff ourselves at buffets, and hit the blackjack tables. Plus we could say howdy to mischief!

(Round trip air and five nights at the Flamingo's under a thousand dollars. Probably cause it's 111 degrees lately.)

(that's round trip air for two)

bmarkly: I'd buy if you were selling these
There you go. I'd buy 24,000 black ants and leave them every place I went for the rest of my life.
posted by youngergirl44 10 July | 21:30
I knew a guy in high school who had a stencil of an ant, about three feet long, that he took with him everywhere he went. He started out just tagging BART stations and trestles as a commentary on the commuter lifestyle, but eventually he took to putting ants all over, just for the fun of it. I was on a road trip with him once, up in the Sierra foothils, when we passed a blank yellow traffic sign (just like this) attached to a post on a lonely road. We screeched to a halt, got out the stencil and paint, and made an ant crossing sign. I recall putting a few on the road itself, too, just for effect.

My point in telling this story? Ants are very much 20th century. Plastic black flies, on the other hand, are the wave of the future. You can ride it, or you can wipe out on the sharp coral reef.

Depending on how it landed and how hard it was thrown I might grab my groin and moan in pain.

£500? Flight to the West Coast.

Ya know, i stopped saving money for the possible grecian meet up months ago, but i could do something with the amount i have saved--
can you get a decent video camera under $400 so i have a little other fun money?
posted by ethylene 11 July | 01:56
You could start saving for the VA meetup.

(Just guessing, but I'd imagine that, if you're willing to use a tape video camera, you could probably buy something very nice, if a few years old, for dirt cheap. That's how it is with a lot of other analog-to-digital things, anyway.)

12-24mm wide angle lens.
posted by matildaben 11 July | 12:37
Analog? No way. No more.
i've seen new digicams for $350 or so.
Maybe i could make a meet up if i can get put up.
