Start spreadin' the news ... I'm leavin' today ...
[More:]I wanna be a part of it, New York, Nooo Yawwwwkkk ...

OK, maybe not exactly today but I just booked a flight to NYC, arriving Thursday, 18 October for 10 days. There's two weekends in that ten-day timeframe, so this time, TPS, don't organise the meetup for the day I arrive, ok?
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!! How exciting! More Jan, more Jan! This time we'll get you to Katz's when it's actually open, lol.

Good for you essexjan! You're quite the traveler. Husband and I have been checking flights to the UK on a daily basis. We're hoping for decreased rates. I have a feeling these recent bombing attempts will deter tourism. Those guys need to go back to terrorism school.

AWESOME! I demand more Jan time this time!!!

Random question, essexjan: Is Jan short for something? I can't believe I don't already know the answer to this question...
posted by ThePinkSuperhero 03 July | 11:51
And will Portland be graced with your presence...?
posted by Specklet 03 July | 11:53
Jan isn't short for anything, although people often - mistakenly - call me Janet or Janice. If I say no, it's just Jan, and they persist, I tend to add 'et' or 'ice' to their names and see how long it takes them to call me by the right name.

Sadly, Specklet, I can't do the Portland trip. Our half-year ends on 30 September and, as I've had 3 weeks off already this half-year I can't take any more time until October. The other (non-bunny) people I had intended to meet in Portland have already booked their trip for mid-September. I always knew it was going to be difficult.

Okay. *sniff*

Speckice?

Kate isn't short for anything, either! Not Katie, Katherine, or Kathleen- just Kate! ::does Just Jack! hands::

But. . .but if you leave a week earlier, you could come to Bunnystock II! Just a week! You've already been to New York, Jan!

Specklet, I'm coming to Seattle and Portland this summer. I'm no essexjan, but I'll post a note to Mecha and maybe I'll see some of you.

Essexjan, maybe I'll get to see you this time!

I know, MGL, but the cost of multiple-stop trips is horrendous. I can only do this because American Airlines is offering great deals to regular customers between Heathrow and JFK.

Speckletice. Or Speckletet
posted by essexjan 03 July | 12:55
See, Specklet, you get safetyfork instead of me. And MGL, you get mike9322. What more could you ask for?
posted by essexjan 03 July | 12:57

BUT, if you flew into NYC before Bunnystock, you could drive with the rest of us down and back, duh!
posted by ThePinkSuperhero 03 July | 12:58
Exactly, TPS! ROAD TRIP WITH JAN!!! Come on, eeeeej, it'd rawk!
posted by gaspode 03 July | 13:07
eeeeeeeeeeeee!!!
posted by chewatadistance 03 July | 13:14
I will have you know that I get her first. Sniff, sniff. I have it on the best authority that the Jan is to make an appearance at the Chain gang weekend in my house. Sniff, so there! Hah! Na-na-na-na-na.

(admittedly we have yet to think of a suitable task for Jan, maybe legal advice on nutter neightbours... hmm pity we dont have any!)

Dude. jan. Come to Bunnystock. It would be epic. Epic.
posted by mike9322 03 July | 13:27
Good news! Definitely something to look forward to!
posted by Pips 03 July | 13:27
Bunnystock's lame, since jon and I probably can't make it. ; )

Personally, I think it would be legendary.

Jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease!!!!

::frantically refreshes for news that Jan has rescheduled::

Ticket, non-refundable, non-alterable is already purchased.

Oh, and I don't do neighbour disputes, Wilder. When I was in private practice, that was one of my cardinal rules. Anyone involved in a neighbour dispute that ends up at a laywer's office is a nutter. End of. But I will cook my famous Mediterranean chicken, if you'd like that instead.

Er, what's all this about a chain gang? Who will I be chained to? Oh god, it's going to be horrible ...

:-(

Booooooo. That sucks. Oh well, we'll have lots of fun in NYC together! What sort of things do you want to do this time around?
posted by ThePinkSuperhero 03 July | 13:37
Also, I don't do road trips very well. You would not want to be in a car with me for a prolonged period of time when I'm cranky.

As I didn't venture north of the Apple Store last time, I'd like to see uptown, where the fancy rich people like gaspode live. I plan on hanging around outside her building, begging.

I have a friend in Woodstock who I'm planning to visit, probably an overnighter (she's a really, really interesting person, a magazine journalist and she's interviewed everybody over the years, so has lots of wonderful stories to tell), as well as hang out with my bunny pals.

I did absolutely nothing cultural last time apart from that one theatre visit (oh, and the nekkid guy with the guitar in Times Square), so maybe some museums and galleries would be nice.

Yaaaay!!!
posted by Specklet 03 July | 13:46
OK, NO MORE TALK ABOUT ME AND BUNNYSTOCK, PLEASE. IT ISN'T GOING TO HAPPEN.

JUST STOP ALREADY!
posted by essexjan 03 July | 13:47
We'll have to do another theatre trip while you're in NYC! I'll keep my eye out for interesting shows....
posted by ThePinkSuperhero 03 July | 13:49
Ah, the Met and Central Park then? Of course there's a bajillion good museums and galleries, but you really can't go wrong with the Met.

Bet your neighbours don't say that.
posted by essexjan 03 July | 14:36
gaspode is far too fancy for us. Last time I tried to go to her place, I was left outside the gates of the mansion, while she was inside, buying diamonds from a jeweler while getting botox from her live-in dermatologist.
posted by ThePinkSuperhero 03 July | 14:36
Well, if you call the kennel to which we banish her nightly "live-in".
posted by gaspode 03 July | 14:41
I heard she released the pitbulls on you, but Twinkie scared them away.
posted by essexjan 03 July | 14:42
Wanna see essexjan!
Wanna go to bunnystock!
Wanna roadtrip the Virginias!

STILL haven't heard about the kitchen work........if the work is going on then, no bunnystock or roadtrip; if it isn't, the last few days of your visit would be better for me.

Nutter? *ahem* I'm have a feeling my insurance won't cover the cost of the damage the spoiled prince caused to my place, so I'm going to have to go after him to pay up when it's repaired, which won't be until after I get the kitchen done. It turns out that his uncle's a bigamist.
posted by brujita 03 July | 15:32
jan, what hotel did you stay on your last visit to NY? Did you like it?
posted by LoriFLA 03 July | 16:05
I stayed at the Gershwin (on gaspode's recommendation) for the first 3 days (thought it was great), then moved to the Broadway Plaza when my friends arrived from Ohio ,just a block or so away from the Gershwin. It was nice enough inside but what a difference a couple of blocks make! There was a lot of, er, commerce of various kinds that took place on the corner outside the Broadway Plaza and taxis would NOT stop there. We always had to walk a block east to get a cab.

Thanks jan.

Upthread, I meant to say:

I have a feeling these recent bombing attempts WILL NOT deter tourism.

Back to NY. What airport is better to fly into? La Guardia or JFK?
posted by LoriFLA 03 July | 16:18
Jf you're going to stay in Manhattan, I think it's better to fly into LaGuardia, as it's closer to Manhattan, and transportation options are cheaper (there's even a public bus). But flying into JFK isn't the end of the world- that's what Newark is for (bleeech, had bad experiences flying into Newark).
posted by ThePinkSuperhero 03 July | 16:26
Thanks TPS. Husband and I may do a four-day trip without the kiddos in October. Flights are dirt cheap. I just have to work myself up to go without the kids. I would love to go by myself too.
posted by LoriFLA 03 July | 16:35
The Gershwin's a convenient place to stay, because you can walk to lots of places from there, both uptown and downtown, and it's near the two separate train lines which both have stations on 28th St, one west of the Gershwin, one east.
posted by essexjan 03 July | 17:16
I would like to see a show with Jan! We never did our drunken walking down 42nd St. while singing show tunes, and October's a great time for that.

But wait.... oshit.... *frantic website-checking*

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYY!

The other convention I'm volunteering for is the first weekend in October.

It's Jansville all the way for me, baby!
