Espers, Vetiver, Greg Weeks, Madagascar??? Has anyone delved far into this kind of neo-indie-folkie-psychedelic stuff? I've listened to some of it, but I'm interested in more and looking for recommendations.[More:]I guess Palace/Will Oldham would be similar, and I have a ton of his stuff, and his brother's band Anomoanon, would also be in there, which I have. I own the Madagascar albums, but no Espers or other stuff outside of Baltimore.
Jana Hunter?

Madagascar just spent Saturday night at my house. Small world! They're really nice guys and one of them is the boyfriend of an old close friend, which is how they ended up staying with me after their gig here Saturday night. We had a great time.

I know, I saw it on your blog, and tried to leave a message about listening to them this morning before work, but for some reason the posting form would not work for me.

Listening to their latest is what prompts the question.

I'm just skimming the surface, so most of my recommendations would be the same that was already covered. But I was pretty impressed by Marisa Nadler's new album, that hasn't been mentioned yet.

I don't know a whole lot about the genre, but what about Akron/Family, Angels of Lights, Devandra Banhart (duh), Six Organs of Admittance, Current 93 (duh?)?

Are those all Young Gods bands? I do think I'll pick up the Akron/Family at my local store, I saw it there yesterday and listened to a bunch of tracks today. Dev. B. has never really grabbed me for some reason. I'll look into the others, thanks. (First two disks of TthanT are copied...coming soon.)

Enthusiastically seconding Six Organs of Admittance. He (they?) also did a collaboration with a Japanese artist under the name August Born, which is good if you like Japanese music.

It's probably not so good if you don't.

I've got the latest Vetiver album but it never really grabbed me. I saw Espers supporting Devendra a year or so ago and, OMG, it was amateur hour. They had no stage presence and had to re-start almost every song they played. I haven't dared try one of their albums. If you haven't got any Devendra, he's definitely worth investigating.

Well, yeah, the first three are/were.

Ok, I stopped at Normals and got the new Akron/Family cd earlier today, and it is just so awesome. Truly great. I highly recommend it. I'm pretty blown away.
