Some NYC photos [More:]Here are my pictures from the meetup and my lunches with Amberglow and Pips, jonmc and Stynxno.

I still have a few hundred more pictures to upload and caption, many of which are views of the city or details of buildings, so I won't bore you with those.
Looks like you guys had a lot of fun.

Ooops! Sorry, jon, done.

I had a wonderful time. My only regret was not getting the phone number of someone I'd have liked to catch up with again during the week, but by the end of the meetup I was so jetlagged (having been up since 5.30am Monday, with only a few hours sleep on the plane, and by this time it was, by my time clock, 5.30 Wednesday (!) that I could barely think straight and I had begun to feel slightly nauseous with fatigue. Indeed, TrishaLynn even had to write a note for the cab driver telling him where I was staying or I might have ended up who knows where.

There was another mini meetup when I went to the theatre with the wonderful Pink Superhero and Stynxno. They took me to this amazing old-style place called Cafe Edison for soup before the show. No pics taken, for some reason (probably too busy eating).

Also, pictures were taken on Sunday of me and jon doing 'the spread' to 'Caroline' by Status Quo (seanyboy will probably know what I am talking about). Sadly they are not on my camera so I could not delete them.

Oh, and gaspode asked about the races at Belmont. I didn't get there. Diane and Leah were meant to arrive Friday. Their flights were cancelled due to storms, and were rescheduled for Saturday, Leah from Syracuse in the afternoon and Diane from Columbus on Saturday evening. Their two cousins had arrived Thursday. So the cousins went off to the races and I arranged to meet Leah, who was nervous about travelling into the city on her own, at LaGuardia.

I managed to sell our race tickets to a young man working on the concierge desk of the Roosevelt Hotel. He'd been planning to take his girlfriend to the races, in the cheap seats, but now had a chance to impress her with $50 seats by the winner's enclosure. I sold him the two tickets for $60.

As luck would have it, Diane got a standby and Leah and I met her at LaGuardia at about 3pm, so they only missed a little more than half a day of their trip. We had a lot of fun, the three of us, but the two cousins were a nightmare, and I will never stay in a suite with four other people again. One cousin is so selfish that she insisted on having the TV on all night with no consideration that it might have disturbed other people's sleep. And she tried to pull a scam on both us and the hotel over the hotel booking and the occupation of the suite, which backfired on her big time. Too detailed to go into here, but, heh, karma.

*snickers* Hailing a cab for you was definitely my pleasure and also the most New York-y thing I've done in a while. I'm very glad I decided to have dinner with y'all, even if I did spill my egg creme all you and my pants. (Um, I did apologize, yes?)

The "dancing on the porch" pics just made my day.
posted by BoringPostcards 15 June | 08:09
You didn't spill it on me. Only all over yourself, unfortunately.

Thank you, jon, for those pictures. Actually, they show how to dance the spread very well. And you can only dance it to Quo. I have spoken, and I am the law.

Can I add those pics to my photoset, jon?

Gad dang it... durn security on my school's computers won't show me the pictures, for some reason... WANT TO SEE PICTURES! Course, stomping my feet does nothing.

It was so great having you on this side of the pond, ej... I can't say it enough.

So, what bridge is that, from you guy's porch?
posted by danf 15 June | 10:06
That's railroad tracks, danf, although we're not far from the Hell's Gate Bridge.

Not quite Katz's, but Cafe Edison (aka the Polish Tearoom) ranks as classic NY deli.
