Wait Wait--I'll tell you! (attending a taping of NPR's quiz show) I went to a taping of NPR's "Wait Wait Dont Tell Me!" tonight in Salt Lake City.[More:]
It was pretty cool. They charmed the pants off of the sold out audience, and even though they obviously had prepared some of their jokes in advance, there was a lot of spontaneous, funny, chaotic stuff going on. I figure I can tell you all of the answers before it plays on Saturday, then you can all rush out and find a bar that listens to NPR at 9 a.m. and make a fortune. Here's a teaser: The answer to one of the questions is

The Viking Turd.

Mo Rocca and Paula Poundstone were especially great. Fun Fact: Paula Poundstone's original response to "How is Paris Hilton going to engage in a life of service upon her release" was something like "She's going to go drink with the other little rich girls" and she retaped it at the end of the show to say "She's going to record the bible on tape and replace those dusty Gideon bibles in the hotel room."

I dunno, the show was about 8.5 times funnier in person than it is on the air. Lots of energy. I have a man crush on Peter Segal now.

That's a great show, I'll go if I ever get the chance.

Retaping was the least interesting part of the tv show tapings I've been to. But it sounds like it would be fun for this show. I love the speedily graying Mo Rocca.

I went to the live show in Seattle a few years ago - they had Dan Savage and there was lots of flirting on stage that didn't make it into the broadcast show. Lots of fun, if you're a major NPR geek.

Oh, I'm jealous- I love that show!

It was great to be in Utah in a room filled with NPR-istas. The only comparable moment was when Michael Moore came to our campus in Orem, Utah. It was like a political revival meeting.

That's a great show. I've always admired Peter Segel's quickness.

It's one of my favorite hours of radio - I sometimes plan my Saturday errands so that I have a longish car drive during that time!

Mo Rocca bugs the hell out of me (sorry), but I loves me some Paula Poundstone. Would love to see the show live sometime.

I've always wondered what the seating arrangements are, craniac. Do they sit at a big long table like I picture them?

How awesome, craniac! What Do You Know (is that the right name?) came through here a couple of times & I couldn't get tickets but would have loved it.

I listened to the show this morning, and thought about you being in the audience!

You know, I sort of felt the same way but in person he is sort of endearing.

Cool! I tried to make an identifiable whooping noise at the beginning but in retrospect should have smuggled in an airhorn.

Viking Turds!
