Addis here I come! [More:]As mentioned in my last post, I'm off to Ethiopia for 3 months to work. Hooray! I'm packed. I have my passport, clothes, visa and everything I need to survive reduced to 30 lb hiking knapsack and a 15 lb daypack. I rule!

(Actually this post is just to say that I will miss MeCha a lot even though I am normally only a lurker. You people are fun and I'll miss the jokes and whuffles. :))
carabiner, have a safe trip! And I for one would love to see photos, hear stories, etc. when you return!

There's a nice Ethiopian restaurant in our neighborhood that we frequent. The food is very interesting but I do not know how authentic it is.

So, good for you carabiner. I too would like to hear more when you get back!

Bon voyage, carabiner! Keep a journal, take lots of photos and share when you get back.

Ditto! I want to hear about Ethiopia--I can't imagine a place where more things are going on that I don't know about!

carabiner, do write everything down. We want to hear all about it.

I wish you well.

Safe travels, Carabiner. If you want an experience in Addis, find the Clean and Greeen Addis Ababa Society. It is a pretty unique program that employs street kids for city green-up projects (projects a magnitude vaster than here in the States). They are also working with the London non-profit group Trees for Cities doing reforestation (Ethiopia has been hugely deforested).

The contact numbers are 251-1-552139 or 251-1-550111 Ext.225. If you happen to find my dear musician friend Sileshi Demissie. he is well worth a visit -- one of the most talented and charismatic people I have ever known. He is still missed here in New England, where he lived for a while.

I won't ask you to kiss him for me ;)
