My car stereo was stolen, and all I got was a lousy t-shirt. No really, they left me a shirt. [More:] They probably used the shirt to protect their hand/arm when they broke the window to open the door. It's kind of a boring shirt, so I don't think I'll wear it. What should I do with it? Donate it?

They stole my deck, subwoofer and amp. Replacement cost is around $600. The window's going to be about $200. My deductibles are $500 each, so it's not worth it to make a claim. I don't have the money to replace the stereo, so I'll just have the OEM put back in.
That really sucks.

Donate it. Get some good karma out of the deal.

When my car got broken into they left me a couple purses.
They were nice purses, but I'm not the purse wearing type of guy.

I think you should have that printed on the shirt to make it un-boring. And yeah, that does suck, sorry to hear it.

That does suck.

8 years ago my girlfriends car was broken into and they went through all the tapes. I am not sure if she was more offended by the break-in or the fact that they didn't take any of her tapes.

What about the Creedence tape?

NOT CCR fans.

Man, when my truck was rifled, they took my CDs. Two of them were "Billy Joel: Greatest Hits". Sometimes, I think I got the better end of the deal.

Well, they didn't take the CD that I had in the glovebox (with a broken handle) but they did get the CD in the deck. It was a mix-CD that I called 'Bass Happy 1/2', 2/2 was the one in the glovebox. I was enjoying those CDs lately, and I think that may have drawn some attention to my car.

I'm sorry to hear that. I've had that happen & it's awful.

I guess sometimes it's good that some people aren't CCR fans...

philomathoholic: you have my condolences. That truly sucks.

stilicho: two copies of Billy Joel's Greatest Hits? Was one a back-up? Not snarking, just genuinely curious.

LMAO and covering my mouth so I don't wake my girlfriend.

Yeah, I think two copies of Billy Joel's Greatest Hits constitutes sabotage, subversion, obstruction, disruption, and/or destruction. Jeeze, it sounds like something this guy would do.

What if you had accidentally played one of those CDs?

yes, totally stole that link from bugbread's meta comment yesterday

Billy Joel's Greatest Hits is a Two CD thingie. Volume One and Two. The reason I know this is because that man I live with has them. Not me, oh no way.

Aaagh, you have my sympathies, philo. I lost my stereo the same way five or six years ago.

In my case, the break-in happened on a rainy day, and the thief left a towel which he draped over the window to keep the rain out. An oddly thoughtful gesture, I thought, from a thief.

I would get the shirt printed with, "This your shirt?" on the front and "Give me back my stereo, jerkface!" on the back.

There could still be DNA on it from skin flakes and sweat.

muddgirl: That's funny.

bruita: The officer that took my information for the report looked it over to see if there was anything incriminating on it, ie: their name stenciled somewhere. When I got home I gave it the sniff test, and it smells like laundry soap, so I don't think it was worn since the last wash.

BP: Yeah that is odd.

Note to brujita: that 'bruita:' is supposed to be 'brujita:'.
posted by philomathoholic 06 June | 10:38
Could've been worse. Could've been Greatest Hits, Vols. 1, 2 & 3.

Well, I'm sorry, but I actually have Billy Joel's Greatest Hits, One, Two, and Three. Plus I've seen him in concert twice.

Back to Thread..
My friends and I came out of a restaurant one night. We didn't pay attention to a couple of guys walking away. But when we went to get in the car, we wondered why a briefcase that was in the back was in the front. It finally dawned on us that the car had been rummaged through. (Though it was hard to tell, since my friend was not exactly the neatest car owner on the planet).
