02 June 2007

Hello from Pärnu, Estonia, a sleepy little seaside town. There's absolutely nothing to do here except go to the beach, and I'm not a beachgoer. I do have a ticket for the opera tonight, though. [More:]I'm in a basement room with a couple of 12 year olds who are playing internet games. I leave for Riga bright and early tomorrow morning. Tallinn was great, though. I've got a few pictures up on Flickr, but the vast majority of them will be posted after I get home.
I was only thinking about you today and wondering how your trip was going.

I was thinking of you last night too matildaben. The pictures are great so far. What a fabulous experience you must be having. Enjoy the rest of your trip and I can't wait to see the rest of your pics.

And I was thinking about you today, too!

Jon, you're not paying attention.

I loved the photo of Estonian money. The colors and patterns are really neat-o and I like the fact that they put pictures of artists and scientists on their currency.

America would do well to follow this example.

I'm not much for the beach either, mats. I love the idea of exploring a sleepy little seaside town though...sigh. Can't wait till you get back to hear about the trip in detail.

I shouldn't have to tell you, but make sure to try Riga Balzams when you're in Riga. Best liqueur ever. When I was in Riga, the family I was staying with was not satisfied until they were sure I was stuffed to the brim with Latvian food and had a nice buzz from Balzams.

Yep, I'm gonna try the Balzams. I didn't get to buy any Vana Tallinn because there was some kind of strange "no selling alcohol" rule in effect on Friday, my last day in Tallinn.

About the money, they also put lovely nature scenes on the back of them. My tour guide in the National Park says that trees are growing in Estonia faster than they can cut them down. They love their nature here. Another example America would be good to follow.

LT - no, I don't want to get thrown in jail.

P.S. The opera was lame, just a couple of steps up from a community theater production. Maybe I've been spoiled by Seattle.
