SanFranciscoRestaurantFilter: if money weren't a concern . . . [More:]
My partner and I are usually very frugal when it comes to eating out but, for just this once, we want to throw caution aside and just go for a good meal, even if it's something that would normally be significantly outside of our price range.

We don't like the snooty Marina aesthetic at all, and we don't want to go somewhere glitzy or big, but rather quiet and a bit on the romantic side. Atmosphere goes a long way. Castro/Duboce Triangle/Mission area would be ideal. I eat fish and veggies and he's a die-hard carnivore. Type of cuisine doesn't matter -- we like it all. (Why do I suddenly feel like I'm writing a craigslist men-seeking-men ad??)

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
We received the following recommendations when asking the same question: "money's no object (and we don't have the lead time to get a reservation at French Laundry) so where should we go?" and got the following suggestions:

-Farallon: 450 Post Street. Seafood. Off Union Square
-Jardiniere: 300 Grove Street. French. Jazz band. Next to Symphony Hall. Sexy & Romantic.
-Bix: 56 Gold Street off Montgomery between Jackson and Pacific (Gold
is like an alley); Club Dining, Jazz nightly. Valet Parking
-Delfina in the Mission.
-Aqua (about $100/person before drinks if you do the tasting menu)

Cool, thanks! I'd totally forgotten about Farallon -- it seems a little Vegas-like, but still intriguing . . .

Ooooh oooh oooh oooh, Jardiniere! Yes! While I've had lovely meals at many places in SF, Jardiniere is the only place I've had the "This is the best food I've had IN MY ENTIRE LIFE" feeling.

I've been to Delfina (in weird circumstances) and Aqua and they were also fantastic; haven't been to the other places on crush's list.

If you do go to Jardiniere and want quiet, however, ask for a table a bit away from the band.

And it's not break-the-bank blow-out expensive, nor is it anywhere close to the Castro, but Aziza out in the Richmond is also turning into one of my favorite restaurants in the city. Moroccan, very romantic.

I've not eaten at Bix, only had cocktails. The atmosphere was meh.
