22 April 2007

so what did you do all day? [More:]

I stacked wood, tried to get the blasted lawnmower working (failed) and did a bit of work in my overgrown mess of a yard. Also played LotRO for way too many hours tonight.

I can't be sure, but I think my neighbor behind me might no longer have the crazy dog. I haven't seen it in over a week and the kid that lives there was wandering around in the back yard having a bit of a temper tantrum a couple of nights before the dog up and vanished. I so hope it does not come back, the thing recently added howling back and forth with coyotes to it's bag of tricks. Way down the hill and I could still hear it inside the house at night it was so noisy. Actually that might explain why it is not there. Maybe it kept the owners awake all night. Hmm. Anyway, I am going to sleep now. You should also sleep.
Cleaned. Studied. Tried on wetsuits (found one!). Walked on a cold, windy, beautiful beach in the pouring rain without hats.

The funny thing about the beach in the pouring rain? We weren't the only ones there- 3 surfers and a guy sitting in a lawn chair under a sun umbrella were also there.

I am going to sleep now. Congrats on the dog. I moved recently, and I don't particularly like my new place- it's right on a busy street and you can hear the cars starting and stopping, but at least I don't have the horrible barking dog next door anymore! I envisioned its death for years! And somehow neither I nor the other 30 neighbors ever got organized enough to make it happen.

Slept. The pill that I take on Saturdays always makes me groggy.I did have a full day yesterday though, with the Therapist, Psychiatrist, work, and time with the Family.

I took an airplane ride, flirted with a hot Danish woman, wrote some postcards, and now I am going to sit outside and drink beer.

Saturday: grocery shopping, lunch out and played too many hours of LOTRO.

Today: on our way to Futureshop to pre-order LOTRO and buy a new computer. You have to have a dvd player and my pc has a cd only player. A better video card would be good too as I had set the video settings wayyy down to get it to work. My processor is doing okay with it but it's sluggish as well. And I need a bigger hard drive. The only down-side is that I'll probably end up having to use Vista.

All this because of a freakin' game. It's sick, I tell ya.

Today? Lazed about. Had breakfast (a bagel and some smoked salmon cream cheese) on the deck. It's gorgeous outside. Picked up the majority of the sticks in the yard(s). Lazed about outside. Currently hoping I don't have a sunburn on my stupid nose, but I assume I do.

Friday I watched the beloved Sabres beat the Islanders to advance to round two. I then went dancing with the Latest Greatest Inappropriate Love of My Life to an 80s new wave/punk night.
Yesterday I went to a Junior League "vintage" cookbook sale (turned out to be not-so-vintage as promised. like, 70s and 80s), grabbed lunch, and hit the co-op for some of the more obscure foods I like. I then went to Toronto for the evening to see VNV Nation playing. I danced on a broken shoe for two hours, I can barely walk today, and it was amazing.

I dislike Toronto goth/industrial shows a lot, though. I go to them because Buffalo is a small city and we rarely get tours here, but they annoy me. No one moves. No one dances. It's like a fashion show of bad hair falls and goggles while everyone practices looking serious and angry. Christ, you paid to see the band, try and look like you're having fun! I've always gotten the impression that their scene was more "see and be seen" than Buffalo, which is laid back and pretty inclusive.
VNV has always been huge on audience participation, though, so the singer Ronan did get people going more than I've ever seen in Toronto. However, it was still all but stationary compared to the floor shaking levels of dancing the Buffalo crowd made with on their last tour. Ronan saw us and made a comment about the "four people from Buffalo" who come to all their shows. We cheered.

My roommate and I left after the final encore, sat on a bench overlooking the water and drooled with envy over the bustling Toronto skyline, drenched in sweat, hair messed up, looking, well, like two people who'd danced their asses off for the better part of three hours. We seemed to be the most dishevled of anyone else around, and laughed when it was noticed and someone commented "I bet they're from Buffalo, people there dance a lot."

Today I have done nothing, but I'm doing laundry soon.

Yesterday, not much. Had some work roofing with my uncle, but had to stop two hours in due to rain, so lay around watching Babylon 5 on dvd and generally avoiding responsibility. Today: laundry, dishes, cleaning, chopping kindling, bringing wood in and, wait for it, backing up everything of value on my hard drive and doing a complete system restore so that my goddamned sound driver and therefore my speaker jack will work again. It's lovely and sunny and I'd rather be working in the garden, but being without a stereo has been driving me mental. I also need to fix my deer fence before I can plant anything, but that means going to the lumber yard for staples and they're closed today. Too bad--it's a nice day for a walk.

Packing up the apartment. Saying goodbye to all my friends in this hellhole town. Crying a lot, actually. Because even though I hate this town, I really love some of the folks I made friends with. Had lunch out. Looked at furniture for ideas in the new house, with the Mister. Feeling a little down. Not looking forward to the three hour drive back to my folks house.

Going back to school is good and I know I'm doing the right thing. His new job is great and exciting. All the opportunities are positive. It doesn't make moving and starting over any easier.

I need a drink. But we gave away the alcohol, already.

Plans, as they say, have a way of changing. We went to Futureshop but we didn't buy a new pc. We ended up getting a dvd-rom and a new video card. None of the pcs they had for sale were really set up for gaming (it was all HPs, Acers and eMachines). Bastards. So instead of pre-ordering LOTRO at Futureshop, I did it at EBGames. That'll learn them!
