Mirror, mirror on the wall, which is the fairest Linux-distro of them all?
[More:]Me: a 36yo architect / web developer, with an AMD 64bit laptop, who has dabbled in programming and linuxy environments.
You: simple to install, well behaved with hardware, able to autodetect and configure my WiFi card, willing to share living space with WXP and x64 installed on the same machine, and above all a real looker, with nice looking menus and fonts, if you know what I mean.
Kubuntu (I think KDE's better looking than Gnome, but beauty's in the eye of the beholder). Fonts are easy, but nice-looking menus will probably require some customization.

I vote Ubuntu (or any variant thereof), it's a very tight overall package, if you know what I mean. I've got it on my server (except I, um, ought to update). The popularity means easier to support.

Right, right, Kubuntu or Ubuntu. We've just had a new release, check it out.

Dude, I am so checking it out that I am typing this in Ubuntu, as it is being copied to my HD, IYKWIM.
Fonts are still kind of stiff, though.

And 1 thing: Ubuntu recognized and configured my WiFi card in about 5 seconds, whereas windows x64 bitches about missing drivers, and won't install it at all.
So all in all, getting Ubuntu to work has been much easier than x64, so far.

When you're ready: Easyubuntu. Fonts, but so much more.

Kubuntu aye...it's downloading as of this morning. Soon to be followed by Easyubuntu, if Kubuntu's missing anything...
