The system is down! [More:]
We've been crippled at work for the past day and a half with some bad malware that has spread through the whole network. Shared license software and network storage, as well as internet and e-mail access was all gone yesterday. Today we're all running spybot software and Windows updates.

When something like this happens it reminds me how reliant we've all become on technology. Small mistakes like this malware incident, power outages, and other events like these can totally shut down a company. Where I used to work, I couldn't even get on to the plant one day because the power went out - the gates were electrically powered and couldn't be moved by hand!

Oh, and while IT was running around fixing things last night, they found out a handful of us have been playing Unreal Tournament on the network after hours. They were not happy about that at all.
Isn't it scary sometimes? Our world is a bit insane.

Great. Now I have Strong Bad stuck in my head. Especially that weird high-pitched noise he makes during the song over and over again.

Some twit plugged the pass thru line from their phone back into a wall jack yesterday afternoon which took our network down for over an hour. So simple yet so devastating, especially since it took our IP phones down too.

Mitheral, I used to get people moving or tidying desks plugging their phone and PC back into the wrong plugs all the time - the computer network was unfazed, but the phone network used to go into immediate heart-attack mode. Trying to diagnose it was awful until it happened enough times to be the first thing I would check when the phone network went down.

Good times, good times.
