12 April 2007

I just made these. (NYT link-- reg. may be required).[More:]I discovered that making brownies is both incredibly simple AND a pain in the ass if you don't have an electric mixer (that's a lot of whisking!).

But GOD DAMN if they aren't the most delicious things ever...
that's right, 2 + sticks of butter. suck it, haters.

I could make these tonight -- I have all of the ingredients. But what's up with wait a day to eat????????????

A Supernatural Delight

Everybody here is out of sight
Can't we have a brownie to bite?

That's just snotty pastry chef mumbo jumbo. Ignore it. I can state with absolute certainty that they are incredibly delicious still warm from the oven.

Now excuse me while I pour myself a glass of zinfandel and eat another brownie...

Yummm. Those must be rich as hell.

Waiting a day to eat might be because of the wonderful chewiness brownies get around the pan-contact region after they've sat a day or so. But I can't imagine letting a pan of brownies sit unmolested for an entire day.

Zinfandel?! You're a heathen - milk is clearly the required beverage.

Oh man, chocolate and red wine is an incredibly good combination...anything with some vanilla notes is killer.

I just made them, they're in the oven. The recipe is almost identical to one I made as a child, except the childhood recipe used 2 c. regular sugar (no brown) and 4 squares unsweetened chocolate (not 8).

I only had cocoa, no squares -- I couldn't quite bring myself to follow the cocoa box instructions re conversion to squares (3 T. powder plus 1 T. shortening) as that would have resulted in the equivalent of THREE sticks of butter. I went with 2 1/2 (yikes).

Hmmm ... I think the cocoa conversion was a bit much for this batch. I'll take 'em to work. (Anyone read Rhymes with Orange today? I looked for a link but didn't find.)

The last time I made brownies I used this recipe. Soooo good. It gets the fudgy thing right down, AND you don't have to wait quite as long to eat them!

(Curse you bunnies! Between the rhubarb post and this you are totally going to make me go baking and ruin my diet!!)
