11 April 2007

three point status update! 1) just got my eyebrows done, and they are ALARMINGLY POINTY![More:]
2)I figured out what my imaginary band's first album is going to be called: The Wisest Of Beetles.
3) I just read over the job application that got me the interview and it's in the most disgusting marketroid language. Furthermore, it sounds scarily close to the gibberish in this post.
1) I've been Haussmannizing the yard (more Prussian artillery officer than architect)
2) Blogger is now doing to me what Flickr did to me (and omiewise) earlier
3) I'm drinking a rare wine I bought at auction (it cost $5 a bottle and isn't a '61 Claret).

1) Away from home again (in Adelaide this week)
2) A bit tipsy, having just got back from dinner at the pub down the road with work colleagues
3) Horny, which is pretty much a standing item for me.

Wow, landscaping by calling in arty strikes? Kewl! Any time-on-target stuff, or just rolling barrages?

1. Feeling a bit nauseous today. Not sure why, I've been eating healthily since the weekend. It's probably the aftermath of the chocolatefest I had over Easter.

2. The new Lakeland catalogue has arrived. Yay!

3. I think I will go back to bed for a while. Wake me up when it's time for Countdown.

1. An old friend I grew up with in Oklahoma has coincidentally found herself living in Korea at the same time I am and is coming to visit me this weekend. I haven't talked to her in ages!

2. I signed up for a dance class in my continuing efforts to be healthier in my 20s than I was as a teenager.

3. I learned my new poomse today!

  1. Résumé's redone -- hoping I get asked to interview tomorrow or Fri.
  2. Got asked to go to Earth Day in Cincy with a co-worker & his wife and their exotic birds -- hey, I get to hang with parrots and macaws!
  3. After work tonite, going to a divorce support group somebody asked me to come and try back on Saturday...here come the middle-aged obese pi$$ed-off women with screwed up kids...

1. Feeling fairly nauseous/oogy today, a continuation of the nauseous/ooginess of yesterday and (frankly) of the last two months or so. I should probably see a doctor about this, but it's so vague I feel weird going in and saying, "I feel weird."

2. Waiting for work to call so I can get this conference call done with.

3. Need to file my fracking taxes!!!

1) Woke up and found that the water coming out of the pipes was poop brown. Seems to be rust/sediment of some sort and not actually poop. Which is nice.

2) I am very tired and cannot motivate.

3) Went to Zara yesterday and blew my shopping hiatus. I had been very good though. Also did not charge said purchases, so I am still working to paying off my debt. Just won't be making a huge contribution this month but I have new clothes. Which is nice. I will have something to wear when I am in Colorado Springs later this month...

fuzzbean i was feeling nauseated/oogy for the past couple weeks, got sick and tired of being sick and tired and did a 3-day cleanse / fast; i.e. strictly water, green tea & raw fruit/veg. in hindsight i think the fact i'd been flat broke for four months meant my insanely cheap pasta-and-ramen diet caught up with me. the fast worked and i now feel unbelievably great, but ymmv.

1) went to a good friend's country-club themed costume birthday party with the dude last night. we were, to put it modestly, a screaming success. dude dressed to the nines in crisp ivory linen trou, yellow pinstripe oxford, navy cashmere blazer, matching felt chapeau and bean tassel loafers, with his gramps' vintage cartier tank watch and mashie. i located a pink-and-black striped genuine ralph lauren ladies' polo (that fits wonderfully and could become a frequent wear item despite i loathe the colour), white wrap tennis skirt, pink & white canvas k-swiss, and a dark rose cardigan, worn knotted over the shoulders (natch), with a white grosgrain hair ribbon, pearl stud earrings, matching add-a-bead necklace and my wilson prostaff. upon our triumphant entrance, the celebrants oohed, aahed and declared "OH MY GOD, IT'S THE HOWELLS!!!!"

2) we've arranged for professional movers to do the ENTIRE office move, therefore all i must do is put colour-code dots on EVERY. THING.

3) my taxes are done, w00t!

3a bonus update) a dude at last night's party informed me that the Boulder Army Surplus has vintage wool Swiss and Slovenian XC ski knickers (um, that would be breeks or plus-fours to you brits) in stock, yaaaaaaay!

1. I have discovered that Claritin, while helping tremendously with my allergy symptoms, leaves me headachey and REALLY FUCKING IRRITABLE.

2. Miffed that a friend hasn't returned my calls/emails/texts. (Yeah, I know you're feeling down and unhappy to be in classes again after too short a break, but can't you at least tell me "hey, leave me the fuck alone" or "hey, I'm okay, thanks for checking in on me"?) Fuck! (See above.)

3. My boss is Crazy with a capital C. I truly think she would benefit from some sort of ADD medication. Thank god this job isn't particularly difficult.

Do it, Hol! My sisters and I took one a couple years ago and had a blast, mostly because I kept offending the instructor with my unintentional hoochiness. "The dance is sensual, NOT SEXUAL," she'd yell.

Holly, do take the class! I have belly dancing tapes at home that I love, and I did take a class once. I was so flattered when another participant (after a couple of classes) told me I was really good. *blush*

1. Prom dress shopping with the stepdaughter. She tried on the ninth dress, one I'd just grabbed from the racks, and it's absolutely gorgeous on her. And it was half price!!!
2. Packing for a trip to my aunt and uncle's farm in Pennsylvania tomorrow. It's my favorite place on earth, and I can't wait.
3. Made a scrumptious shrimp quiche tonight. Mmmm.

PaxDigita, Paris went from being a run down medieval city to being a state of the art, streets-too-wide-to-protest-on C19th metropolis in fairly short order. This was mostly due to a bloke called Haussmann. He got his blank canvas courtesy of the work of the Prussian artillery who blasted most of Paris into the dust a little earlier.

So my yard is in neither the "before" nor "after" mode, but the in-between destruction. People talk of the "Haussmannizing" of Paris referring to the creation of the beauty we all know now, but the German sounding name suggests the pre-Commune bombardment too.

The man himself.

Some before and after shots of Paris.
