Booze, borders and gifts. Some questions I have.[More:]
Has anyone ever sent booze across the border, like as a gift? See, there's this rum that I'd like to get. I don't like rum, but this stuff's amazing. I looked at getting it special-ordered here, but it'd run $60 a bottle with a min. order of 12. owch. Had I transportation, I'd bop across the border to Seattle and grab some but as I don't, it's a stumbling block.
So - how feasible is it to have it sent across the border, say by Greyhound or something? Has anyone done it with any success or failure? If it's possible, would anyone in Seattle do it for me, if it didn't get you in trouble? Naturally I'd pay all the expenses.
Zack, you would have to pay PST, GST, and federal duty. In addition, in Ontario you would have to pay Liquor Board mark-ups. I am not sure if the B.C. board does that or not. In Ontario the extra costs come out to about the same as you paid for the bottle. Call the Liquor Board and ask for some info.

I went throught BC Liquor Board, and they'd quoted me $60/bottle, which is why I was wondering if one were to be sent as a gift if there'd be a way around the hellish markup. I'm sure the taxes are a given. *sigh*

Any American coming to visit you can bring one bottle to you. Could you host 12 friends for a night? :)

Only if I stack 'em!

If you're trying to stack 'em, twelve bottles of rum is a good start.

If I weren't so effing busy I'd bring you up a bottle myself in exchange for being hosted in Vancouver for a weekend. Send croctommy an email. I bet he could be convinced.
