24 March 2007

What are you doing tonight? [More:]I have my Saturday night to myself for the first time in a little while and I'm actually quite looking forward to it. I just got back from grocery shopping and I'm going to make me a fabulous dinner of my favourite salad and I'm grilling a steak. I was checking out the bakery department at the store, hoping that they'd have mini lemon tarts (another fav) but they didn't. What I did see, were these cakes for two. Did you know they had cakes for two? I picked up a white chocolate and raspberry mousse one and I wonder if it might go well with a glass of port?....I walked over to the LCBO and found a bottle of Cotes du Rhone that may go well with my steak, so I'm all set to settle in for a quiet evening.

What's up with you?
Watching The Shawshank Redemption (ad break right now).

I'm having dinner early (quesadillas, homemade Cubano black bean soup, cheap red table wine) and then some friends who are bringing friends from out of town will come over. We'll hang out here for a little (they want to meet Scout and Dill the gliders), then go out for a drink or two, then go out dancing at the world music night at a schawnky club.

Doing a little bit of cleaning up.

Later on, reading.

Tonight I'm going to see a production called Hormonal Imbalance. I have no idea who the Four Bitchin' Babes are. Some friends bought the tickets two months ago. I was supposed to go out to dinner with friends before the show, but didn't get out of work in time. Right now I'm eating a fast-food Cesar salad in my work clothes. I better get ready.

I'll be parked on the couch as I have been for the past couple of days. I might get around to having a shower (I managed one last night, but kind of wrenched my middle so I'm a little leery of trying again). There will probably be basketball watching and then I will decide whether to have a vicodin or a beer. I think I can proabably have a beer because I haven't had any vicodin all day. We will order take out, don't know what yet. Indian, maybe.

Back from my parents' place after spending the afternoon playing with my young niece and wrestling with the Word formatting issues my dad's PhD thesis. Cracked open a bottle of red but need an early night have a busy day tomorrow and the clocks change here tonight so I'm getting an hour less sleep. Boo!

Tonight is still 7 hours away. I rarely plan that far ahead.

Watched The Last Kiss and Little Miss Sunshine on DVD, had a nice meal, had champagne because I have just got into my Masters degree at Birkbeck!

Drinking a rum and coke, eating sesame noodles, playing Scrabble with my honey and feeling jealous of gaspode's vicodin.

Me time.

Just got back from a nice lazy run. Now reading a New Mexican Christmas cookbook which I found at the free-exchange shed when I ran to the dump earlier. Lots of excellent Tex-Mex reciopes. Tonight: cooking a tofu/chickpea yellow Indian curry, reading, laundry, probably a bath.

I worked in yards all day (my dad's AND then over at my mom's) - then I made dinner which was grilled chicken w/some roasted potatoes+sugar snap peas - in some kind of garlic/seasoned stuff (this was one of those frozen green giant packaged deals...it also had red pepper in it but I took some of that out because while I like pepper - I prefer it for flavor and not as a main ingredient.)

I'm going to take my dog on a two mile walk, then I'm going to shower and after that a bunch of nothing. Possibly a bunch of nothing with Bailey's and peanut butter m&m's (and maybe Casino Royale with hot sex Bond Daniel Craig.)

All I know is I have to open the bowling alley tomorrow at 8:30am. I really have no idea what to do with myself between now and bedtime. Probably more job hunting.

that rum and coke must taste good after all the waitin', j-ross.

I just put an apple/raisin pie in the oven, and am having a cocktail (Rob Roy minus the fruit, with club soda) before firing up the grill to begin dinner. We'll be having onion & potato soup, grill roasted pork chops butterflied with seasoned ground veal, summer squash casserole, and steamed snow peas. Maybe bacon dripping cornbread from a cast iron skillet, if I get ambitious.

Then, I am doing some assembly work on my new SAMBA server. Or playing some low down, double back beat white boy blues on the old Martin. Haven't really decided, yet, but the dog likes to bark on choruses, and he's no good at all with computers.

Meeting up with friends for dinner before going to see TV On The Radio. Hoping it's not going to rain more. Not rebroadcasting radio show - maybe next weekend.

Poker night!

...and perhaps making an ass of myself again on IRC.

Ooh, yay, greycap! If you're just starting, I wish you the best of luck, especially if you're doing it part time. From experience it's really hard getting back from work and then having to start all over again, but at the end, it's really worth it. I did exactly that for 2 years at Greenwich Uni and it really was worth the effort.

Editing the index for The Fucking Freelance Project that Won't Die. Also possibly watching "The Matador" on dvd, either on my own (bf is working tonight) or at best friend's house, if I can muster up the energy to drive to Pasadena (after having already driven there and back once today to see my genius of a hair stylist). I already saw "The Matador" when it was in the theatre, and thought it was brilliant -- Pierce Brosnan and the screenwriter were robbed for not getting Oscar noms last year, do you hear me? ROBBED!

Have no idea what I'll eat. Maybe order Chinese.

Making polenta w/ mushroom (porcini, crimini, clamshell, trumpet, oyster) bolognese and roasting some (very) early asparagus.

Then drinking heavily. Because that's how I roll.

Reading this litany of appealing-sounding activities makes me feel like a sad single guy. Maybe I'll go to the grocery store.

I like the sound of "Bailey's and peanut butter m&m's".

Good show, greycap!

box: just make sure that if you buy any pudding, you buy 240 dollars worth.
posted by scody 24 March | 19:50
It's my contention that pudding should never be measured in dollars. I don't know why I feel strongly about this, but I do.

Possibly watching Antonioni's Red Desert, though I'm feeling a little dumb, so maybe just some anime instead. Maybe starting in on Rational Mysticism.

Whatever I end up doing, ice cream will be eaten.

I overdid it last night and today - typical; I felt better from the flu so I got real drunk last night and stayed up half the night (s'okay, it was worth it. No more vajayjaycation! Ha!) and then worked in the garden today so, naturally, now I kind of feel like crap again. Which is too bad since my houseguest is leaving tomorrow and he kindly took me out to dinner at a really excellent Indian restaurant tonight and I hate that I'm too out of it to take him out on the town or anything. Also, I hate that I probably gave him the same flu and he doesn't feel real well either. Oh well, mice, men, plans, all that shit. Because I was sick he got to spend quality time with another old friend here and so I got to spend evil quality time last night with my own friend, heh. All works out in the end.

Spaghetti, an Argentine movie about the 1982 war and laundry--my bedroom toilet flooded this morning ( I have no idea why; the doorman woke me up to say there was a leak) and I have to pay my downstairs neighbor for the water damage.

I went out with some classmates. After the girls left, a classmate and me got a couple of beers and started drinking.
I'm still wondering if he got drunk or if he is the master of sarcasm. It was one of the strangest chats that I've ever had.

sorry, cmonkey - it seems to be going around. Maybe this game will make you sleepy. Or I could tell you the story of my life. :)
posted by taz 25 March | 03:39
Thanks taz, but I have to go to the airport in two hours, so it'll have to be a zombie day for me :-(
posted by cmonkey 25 March | 04:14
ugh. Even worse. Will it be a long flight? Can you sleep on the plane at all?
posted by taz 25 March | 04:21
It's a pair of 7 hour flights, and I'm sure I'll sleep through most of the second one. I just have a deeply rooted fear of sleeping on airplanes because I talk in my sleep a lot.
posted by cmonkey 25 March | 04:43
hee! I wish I were your plane neighbor.
posted by taz 25 March | 04:45
I dunno, I'm told it's usually pretty offensive.
posted by cmonkey 25 March | 05:19
oooh, baby! Offend me with your wicked sleeping-on-the-plane talk, hot stuff! Or is it offensive as in football? Because I don't know nothing about no smashmouth.
