Three Point Status Report 1) Better Half finds out if he has a job at BIGCORP in Glasgow today.[More:]
2) I am worried that the asshole brigade is going to bomb Iran. er, what the fuck? This is going to stop nukes and/or meddling in Iraq how? isn't it going to make the situation WORSE in Iraq? After everything that they have done and seen they STILL want to attack Iran? Even from a neocon point of view the Iraq war has been a catastrophic failure! They're not just right wing, they're delusional! Also my Lebanese friends are really worried.
3) My dryer is still broken and there are clothes drying on the storage heaters. whee!
1) Good luck to Better Half, BTGOG.
2) Wars of the length of this one develop their own weird inner logic. A year ago, I was all for a fast U.S. pull out, but now, that seems a pretty direct road to major escalations in the region. The Saudis could have real problems in a year or two, if the Iranians come into effective control of Iraq, as they are also becoming very influential in Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, and other Gulf states. At some point, OPEC itself has to take Iranian leadership into consideration. And that leaves Israel between a rock and hard place. So, now, I'm really careful what I wish for, when it comes to whirled peas.
3) At least you're getting some humidification, right?

As for me:
1) My nights and days are topsy turvy, and I need to get my sleep pattern back to normal.
2) I've been off cigarettes for over a year now, again, for the umpteenth time, so time to get back on the weight loss program with full committment. Ash Wednesday being as good a day as any, and better than many, to start.
3) My yard looks drab and bedraggled, meaning it's time for pre-spring cleanup, pre-emergent herbicide & fertilizer, pruning, etc. The stupid azalea bush outback bloomed already. Sheesh. It's still February, you stupid bush!

1) Such an profound lassitude has descended upon me that I'm apparently too lazy to do much of anything, including come up with points 2 and 3 of my three-point status report. Possibly a lingering effect from my recent catarrh. (Using the word "catarrh" is very likely the most work I'll do today.)

3. Trying to figure out if there's a way I can get down to London tonight that will allow me to both have a drink while I'm down there and also transport a bunch of clothes and crap up with me on the way back. I'm not sure there is.

Life stuff, that's all.

But one thing that's really getting me down is realizing that the person I consider my best and oldest friend seems to have pretty much dropped me. I suppose it's been coming for over a year, but I thought it was just something that needed working on, patience, communication, blah blah blah. Today it's his 40th birthday, he's having a party given by some of the people he lives near, and I got the big blow-off. One of the friends sent me a bulk e-mail invite last week, but I live two hours away and would have needed more advance planning; plus, the fact that he didn't call himself (it's not a surprise) added to the fact that he hasn't been bothered to call since before Christmas, despite saying that he would and knowing I'm in a position where I could use a friend's support, leads me to think it's time to pronounce this 12-year, at times very close, formative friendship dead.

If that were the only thing going on I'd be managing, but that's just one of a few struggles at the moment. Thanks for the hugs. This was more than 3 points. Sorry.

If you ever wanna vent or what have you, I'm definitely around, Miko. It hurts so much to have rejection like that. You've been extremely kind to me when I've shown weakness and you deserve support.

1. My daughter turns 6 today! Her new bike is awaiting her at my apartment. She's going to be so excited!
2. The weather has been absolutely crazy this winter so it's remarkable that I haven't had any allergy problems. Until now. Two days before my bed & breakfast trip. Thanks, Murphy.
3. On the other hand, bed & breakfast trip this weekend! Sweet relaxation.

1) I feel sluggish mentally and physically.
2) Someone I went out of my way to give a second chance to here at my job has now seriously fucked with my program, harming patient care and making mock of all of us.
3) I must finish two hundred more pages of Emma by tomorrow for a book group.

(4. I can only hope to work hard enough to use a word like catarrh today.)

1. Still rejected, dejected, hung down, brung down, in love, unloved, unlaid and so on. However have a call in to my therapist to try to get my life back on track. Again.

2. But went out last night to the bar & laundromat & ran into an old friend & ended up actually having a lot of fun & even scoring some mardi gras beads - good thing I was wearing a bra for once. ;-) Except I think I might have lost a load of clothes at the laundromat: vodka & washing do not always peacefully coexist.

3. It's like 60 degrees out today but I didn't get the memo & so am woefully overdressed in heavy sweater & boots.

The movers emailed while I was in London telling me they'd show up today to deliver the woodwork for the cabinets, but I needed to give them the super's number so they could fill out the insurance certificate and I wasn't able to do that until yesterday. They didn't call me back yesterday.

I was up until six am straightening up the office (where the back door is), hallway and kitchen so they could come in.

I just spoke to them and they still haven't straightened out the insurance and won't show up today--so it won't be delivered until April. GRRR

1. Another big part of my job was taken from me and given to someone new - on Monday when I was out of the office. Wondering if they're trying to phase me out.
2. Have been looking for a job since Christmas with no luck. It's beginning to depress me.
3. Very excited about the Chicago meetup tomorrow night, but slightly worried that no one will know who I am and I'll just sit in the corner by myself. Perhaps I'll carry a single rose or wear a red baseball cap.

-Been up since 5am
-had to physically step in to stop a very angry confrontation between two surgeons.
-Controlled the urge to turn around and slug both of them, finished the job and got the train home in beautiful sunshine.

1. I had to talk to the Complainant from Hell again today, this time he was ok with me but during the call he made serious (and unfounded) accusations against another member of staff which are now the subject of a separate internal investigation which I know will exonerate her.

2. This morning I was knocked over when I was trying to get off the train in Stratford by a man who shoved his way into the carriage. By the time people had picked me up, the doors had closed so I had to go to Mile End and come back again. The train wasn't crowded (it was 6.15am) but at that time of day there are lots of big burly builders on their way to work and they didn't take kindly to some dickhead knocking a 4ft 11 woman to the floor. I think it'll be a while before he tries to push onto a train again.

3. I have been very disciplined about my diet this week and am feeling virtuous and healthy. Tonight I have turkey and grilled veggies for dinner.

1. Legs hurt. Bad. This can't go on.
2. Crazy in love with the gliders, who are doing adorable things now like sitting in my hand and pressing a nose in between my fingers.
3. House, finances a mess. When will these things get taken care of? We may never know.

On preview: OMG yaaaay pie! When do we get to meet her?

1. Car was still iced in this morning... had to delay visiting mom until tomorrow. Jon bought bags of salt and poured it round car. (Margaritas with leftover salt later.)
2. Watched seven hours of the Wire yesterday with Jon. Awesome. Need to soak eyeballs in saline.
3. Thinking about sending out some poems. Haven't sent anything out in a couple of years. It's a royal pain in the arse. All those "Little Mags." Might be too late for this season anyway. Least I'll have some real publication credits to put in my cover letter this time. (Can't think of anything salt related on this one... although I think there is a journal called Salt.)

1. Been busy at work for the last 1.5 weeks working on a project that was supposed to have been only 2 days work when it was first pitched to me. It snowballed as projects that are sold as "easy" are wont to do.

2. Haven't gotten to bed earlier than 1am the last few days because I've been working on my PT business - some of the light admin that I could have done while at the office when I had more bandwidth was displaced so I'm doing research in my off-hours.

3. Wednesdays means Caramelo at Second Cup, but my barista didn't have it waiting for me today. :( Although he brewed me a fresh individual cup, it was too strong and too hot - the coffee I was so looking forward to at lunch turned out to be a letdown but at least my lemon-ginger cookie made up for it.

2: yay for pie's dating
3: boo for me doing this and not any uni work.

specklet - house tidying is overrated. This is a known fact. Unless you're my parents, that is. And why is it that, when I'm at their place, I make an effort to keep things tidy, but in my place, I just don't? Gah.

2. I'm surprised at how many of us included frustrations about work in our updates. At least we're in the same boat, albeit a crappy boat with a few minor leaks and no motor or oars. But we have each other, right?
3. I had garlic noodles with asparagus and big shrimps and godiva chocolate cheesecake for lunch from the Cheesecake Factory. Even that didn't make me feel better.

Kellydamnit, before you do anything rash, let me tell you that supermarket jobs suck the soul out of you. They're not bad until the customers treat you like second class citizens.

Sorry, TPS, wish I could say something to cheer you up!

2. But still fighting with one son over homework and grades.
3. Looking forward to a retirement dinner on Saturday.

1. The check engine light in my car lit up today. It's a 4-month/2500-mile old car, and it already had a warranty replacement of the differential/rear axle. Seems like Ford quality standards are starting to be enforced on Mazda... :\

2. Unmotivated, procrastinating, and the job at hand isn't really so bad

3. Lots of backlogged, important and boring bureaucratic stuff that I can't find the will to finish.
