20 February 2007

I'm putting on weight. [More:]and I'm thrilled. Seriously, I think I've put on about 10 pounds over the past two weeks. This is cool.
My sarcasm detector is at the shop.

Somebody help!

Of course you are, you lazy cow.

I envy you, jonmc. I unintentionally lost a shitload of weight, and none of my clothes actually fit me any more.

CitrusFreak: no sarcasm. I'm a scrawny bastard, I could use a pound or twenty.

dersins: for years most of my pants have hung listlessly loose, making me look assless. They actually fit now.

jon, dersins, I say this with the greatest love and respect.
Fuck off.

I don't want to hear about it.

*remembers slim self*

arse: I'm not just slim, I'm scrawny, emaciated, vulpine. That ain't especially healthy or attractive either.

At 6' / 165 I had the same problem, but then last summer I sprung for some retardedly expensive jeans (diesel, paper denim, and some of the high-end levis) which finally made it appear as though I had an ass.

Unfortunately, I inadvertently lost about 25 pounds since then, so my +/- $800 worth of fancy jeans no longer perform the function for which they were acquired.

Just goes to show... well, something, I'm sure.

as of late january I was 6'1"/155-160. Our scale is broken so I don't know the exact gain, but I'm visibly heavier.

OK so you guys ARE on the stringy side.

Is this the guess jonmc's weight and win a kewpie doll thread?

I am so in, I guess 158. He thinks he's gained weight but it's just hot air.

*hopes jon knows I am SO teasing*

Ah, I remember back when I was too skinny, and the joy of gaining weight... Now I have cellulite and I can't fit into my rock'n'roll leather pants. *frowny face*

6 months ago or so, say August, I would say I was around 190-195 pounds (6'3"). Heaviest I've ever been in my life, and I was feeling gross. I got a road bike and started riding and my diet changed. My body decided it wanted different foods, and as a result I dropped 12 pounds in no time. I'm holding 170-175 now. Pretty much a good weight for my frame.

I'm 5'9 and I weigh 150.
I am a stick.

I don't even know what that makes you.

Go Jon go!
Eat eat eat!

Fat or muscle?

I hope you are going on lots of walks and lifting something heavier than the remote or a corn dog. ;-)

And dersins, you worry me. Go see a doc-unexplained weight loss is Not Good.
posted by bunnyfire 20 February | 22:55
judging from just what jon shares about his eating habits, i think it HAS to be fat. heh

Not unexplained. Just unintentional.

Truth be told, I've always hated being skinny. Especially my wrists.
posted by jonmc 20 February | 23:11
I would trade $800 in designer jeans for the loss of 25 pounds.

6'4" @ ~165lbs, and yeah, jon, I know what it's like. It's pretty good, huh, being able to do that and feel good about it. (and i thought pips'd like it too. heh.) Coming from someone who's got a similar body type as you, I'd suggest a bunch o' walking, just to make sure that extra gained poundage doesn't go to somewhere you don't want it. Y'know, just in case.

[aside]Spek? Judging from the pics I've seen on your Flickr pages, you've got sweet FA to worry about - you're still teh hawt. ;) [/aside]

I used to be 6'1 and 75kg(165lb) but have put on 10k in the past year or so and now feel pudgy at 85 kg (187lb). I just had a serving of hot chips, a hedgehog slice and a bottle of ginger beer for lunch, so can't understand why I am gaining weight.

I haven't eaten a hedgehog all day.

Don't be stupid - I couldn't eat a whole one, it was just a slice.

Fried foods - it's them what does it. My grandparents (British stock - in their prime during WW2) used to eat a fair amount of deep-fried stuff, but then they never had central heating, so they'd burn it off pretty rapidly. Nowadays, one has to really work at that to get rid of the fats that are included in deep-fried things (yummay though it may be...).
IMHO? Salads kick bum. Watch out for the dressing tho. Apart from that, I find a nice salad really livens me up, and puts me in a good mood. That may just be me though... it's easy for your body to digest, and has lots of those vitaminny and minerally whatsis that are good for you.
posted by Zack_Replica 21 February | 00:57
having said that, i'm going to finish my scotch [balvenie 10 yr-old] and my smoke and go to bed. aaaahh, vitamins. (i do have organic pasta and pesto for lunch tomorrow, though. *sigh*)

Watch out Jon. I used to be built like you, 6'2" and 165 to 170 pounds. I spent most of my life being called "string-bean" and such and then when I hit 35, the weight just started piling on. Now at 42, I'm tipping at almost 250. I actually like the way that I look better, I never liked looking so skinny, but I'm sure that it can't be healthy.

It is interesting how frame size makes a difference. A decade of so I was 195 at 6'3 and I was pretty damn skinny, bones sticking out etc. Reading about similarity tall people being significantly lighter then that freaked me out a little, if I was 170lbs I'd be extremely gaunt looking. I'm a bit overweight now and need to drop about 15lbs, but there again the body frame absorbs most of it and it don't look as bad as it is. le sigh.

My 15 year old son is, at this point, 6'1" or 2" and I think weighs around 140 lbs, so I feel for you on the clothing front. It's like having a very active piece of wire around the house. People (including me) are constantly giving him shit for having pants that fall off all the time, but they simply do not make jeans for that body type. I mean, I'm buying him 28/33 when I can find them, which is rare, and they're still too loose.

Jonmc, this thread is useless without pictures. You'll be looking good on the nude beach this year!
