Cool. [More:]
"Sea lions can carry in their mouths special cuffs attached to long ropes. If the animal finds a rogue swimmer, it can clamp the cuff around the person's leg. The individual can then be reeled in for questioning."

Sea lions rock.
I imagine if that happened to you, it would be one of the most surreal experiences ever.

And how does the sea lion know who is, or is not, a "rogue swimmer"?

Dolphins are about as smart as dogs, so are trainable. Sea Lions are much more aggressive and not as smart; I wouldn't go near one if you paid me (they populate the beach by my house in large numbers a couple of times a year).

Interesting article. I'd not want to trust those critters to be important to my plans. Intelligent?.. ish.. whimsical?.. you bet.

Um, what is the definition of a "rogue swimmer"? I have a funny picture in my head, but, really, how can a swimmer be "rogue"? I've heard of "rogue elephants" running amok, but how could someone be "swimming amok"?
