Someone's knocking at the door, somebody's ringing the bell Except no one is. Tonight the doorbell of Swans' End has rung three times. The first and third of those times I was in the living room and looked out the window. The second time I came running down the stairs to the front door almost before the Westminster chimes had finished their tune. And all three of those times there was no one on the porch who could have pressed the doorbell. Eerie... [More:]Though I suspect it's simply a malfunction of my doorbell, which is only a few weeks old;-)
Hey, my hundredth thread...

Is it an electronic doorbell? My friend's electronic doorbell used to ring whenever her neighbor's doorbell (also electronic) was pressed. Could it be something like that?

It's a wireless doorbell. So it could be that, if there's another doorbell in the near vicinity set to the same frequency (or whatever the correct technical term for that is).

Maybe you need... the Professional, centurial cygnet.

I need the black private dick who's the sex machine with all the chicks. He and he alone can solve all my problems.

Maybe we all just need a fashion climax.

LOL, wireless doorbells. I had one of those a couple years ago, and due to some quirk in my house's wiring, it chimed whenever I switched on the lamp in my bedroom.

Maybe your neighbor's doorbell is ringing when somebody is at your door.

Disconnect your doorbell [reciever] and wait till they go to bed. Then ring your doorbell like crazy and see if the lights come on over there.

Aaaaalllll sorts of things can set off wireless doodads - these days, with everything being wireless, it is hard to find a frequency that isn't being used by at least a couple of devices in the immediate frequency. When you combine this with "noise" from (wired) unshielded electrical devices, it's a wonder anything cordless works. The only saving grace is that, because most devices have such a short range, they are all out of range of each other.

What you've got is a situation where your subconscious is ringing the doorbell to goad you into confronting youself. I'm afraid you've got yourself what we call...a Raven.

Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing,
Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before
But the silence was unbroken, and the darkness gave no token,
And the only word there spoken was the whispered word, `Lenore!'
This I whispered, and an echo murmured back the word, `Lenore!'
Merely this and nothing more.

Back into the chamber turning, all my soul within me burning,
Soon again I heard a tapping somewhat louder than before.
"Surely," said I, "surely that is something at my window lattice;
Let me see then, what thereat is, and this mystery explore -
Let my heart be still a moment and this mystery explore; -
'Tis the wind and nothing more!"

We had to get rid of our wireless doorbell for this very reason. Our house is small enough that the door knocker works just fine.

OS: Does the manual say anything about switching the code from the factory preset?

I bet if you watched the Frontline documentary The Way the Music Died, and listened to Sarah Hudson's version of that 'Someone's Knocking at the Door' song, it would take your mind off things.

Happened again tonight. I'll have to look into changing the codes.
