FireFox, Tabs and MetaFilter So I learned something about how MetaFilter and FireFox tabs interact this morning.

Jessamyn offered to reset my MF password (something else I didn't know) after I whined about the SMTP black hole between Matt and Me. I took her up on her offer and Voila! shiny new secure password that isn't duplicated 200 places around the web.

However now I'm locked out for 24 hours. How did such a horrifing thing happen you ask? I didn't logout of MF before exiting FireFox last night. So when I restarted this morning it apparently attempted to log in using my old credentials for each of the dozen or so tabs I had open.

It was a slow day and I _love_ tabs. It's not unusual for me to have 30-40 tabs of assorted stuff open. My only real constraint is I try not to have the tab bar scroll (which is around 90-100 tabs depending on the width of the window).

On sites like MeCha and MeFi I'll load the front page and then scroll down middle clicking all the links (external along with internal) to open them in new tabs. Then I work my way through them. Active or interesting threads stay open, sometimes for days so I can do a quick refresh to see if anything new has been posted.

I am a tab-addict as well, I like having lots of them going and colored tabs help me keep them straight but the new FF doesn't keep shrinking them and I don't like the down arrow drop box thingie so much.

Like Mitheral said - a dozen Mefi tabs open is nothing for me. I load the front page and open all the threads that look interesting and then I read them. I do the same with AskMe; I usually end up with a minimum of 50 tabs open.

Tab Mix Plus lets you set minimum tab widths and revert to the old style drop indicator (amongst other things) fenriq.
