06 February 2007

Well, my life is pretty much complete. Just got back from the Paul Weller concert after-party... where I got to hang out... PAUL WELLER. [More:]Pictures to be posted in a few days when the lovely girl from England emails them to me. Meantime, I may get backstage into the green room when he's taping the Jimmy Kimmel show tomorrow. Am I going to be able to sleep tonight? No, I am not.

Also, in case anyone was wondering: yes, he does have very soft lips.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
er, that should be: where I got to hang out with Paul Weller. Needless to say, it's 2:30 in the morning and my typing skills are pretty much shot.

You copped off with Paul Weller??
Call the tabloids.

SCODY'S IN A JAM
KISS AND TELL SECRET OF INTERNET'S FINEST

Also, this post is useless without pictures.

You made out with Paul Weller?!?
posted by ethylene 06 February | 05:38
Well, there wasn't quite enough prolonged kissing to count as "making out" (not that I would have objected, mind)... but there was lip-to-lip contact (he also kissed me on the forehead, the cheek, and the hand. The man can WORK IT!).

Pictures reside with my concert-pal Deb on her digital camera, who as we speak (type) is getting ready to fly back to Hull, with sworn promises to email them to me the instant she gets back.

Fingers crossed for tomorrow! *sighs, smiles, whimpers, giggles, sighs again*

When i said i was giving you dibs i didn't mean--

Awesome, girl, i'm so happy for you.
i'm happily giggling and dancing around with you, occasionally bursting out in ear shattering yelps.
Couldn't have happened to a better person.
i say we make scody and paul sitting in a tree shirts.

Is SOMEONE blissed out?! ;-)

most likely I'd be acting the same way if it were Daniel Day-Lewis

You came into my life,
Then like a perfect stranger you walked away, walked away,
walked away, walked away...

Wow scody, I'm living vicariously through you. Kissing rock stars, hanging out in green rooms?! What a thrill! Now you can die happy.

Wow, Paul Weller got to kiss you!
;)

Look, I loved Robocop, too, but this obsession of yours is...

*rereads*

never mind.

Could you tell him you'll go all the way if he gets The Jam back together? Pweaze?
posted by Hellbient 06 February | 11:15
I'd buy that for a dollar!
posted by Hellbient 06 February | 11:16
Cool, cool cool scody. I am also very happy that you didn't hang out with him and find out he's a jerk or anything. Now THAT'S disappointment.

Paul Weller has always been a big crush of mine. One of my all-time favourite records is the piano-and-vocal version of 'My Ever Changing Moods' from the Café Bleu album. Absolutely stunning vocal from PW.

Unfortunately I don't have it in mp3 format ....

richat: yes, Weller was amazingly gracious and warm -- he took time to chat and laugh with everybody, take pictures, thank everyone for their support, etc. I also spent time chatting with Steve White (Weller's drummer) as well, who was just as sweet as could be -- so friendly and open. When I first went into the party, he (Steve) smiled and said, "ah, now, YOU were having a good time -- I could see you dancing through the whole show!" (Which may have been his way of saying "you looked like a crazy woman down there in the first row," but I'm going to hope not.)

So yeah, I'm still in a bit of daze. I have this terrible morning-after fear that I said something stupid, but I'm fairly certain I held it together reasonably well at the time.

jan: I've only got that version of "My Ever Changing Moods" on vinyl (!) but if I ever get around to getting it on mp3 I'll upload it for you.

jon: oh man, I totally should have worn a Robocop t-shirt!

Buckaroo Bonzai was an awesome movie.

Is Steve White the same drummer that he hired for Style Council? Who was, like, 16 when he joined? Man, that guy could drum.

Scody, you flaming hussy! That's so cool. Hope you get backstage at Kimmel.

I keep thinking "Robocop" any time Paul Weller is mentioned. I had to Google him to find out who he was.

yep, that's kinda the story of his career in the states. He's a rock icon in Britain, and in the states, he's almost entirely off the radar. Except for the diehards, of course.... we're like a cult, evidently (according to my very amused boyfriend last night). Happily, my best friend has now been indoctrinated -- she turned to me halfway through the show with this kind of glazed look in her eye, and she goes, "oh my god, NOW I get it!" One of us, one of us!

essexjan, scody, and anyone else... The Style Council - My Ever-Changing Moods. Also - I'm super-envious you got to see him! Glad it was great.
posted by Zack_Replica 06 February | 20:27
Thanks, Zack, but that's not the Café Bleu version, which was just vocal and piano. Still a great song though.
posted by essexjan 07 February | 04:31
Damn. I'm looking for the Cafe Bleu version - I'll let you know when I get it.
