Paging jonmc ...and all them what like punk. Ran across this - boingboing's "9 great old punk videos", and "7 punk and post-punk female singer videos".[More:] (all youtube links!) A few of the links are broken, namely Devo's 'Uncontrollable Urge', GenX's 'Your Generation' (featuring a swishy Marc Bolan). The punk female singers link has got Joan Jett, but doesn't have her doing 'Bad Reputation', which I love to pieces.
The Devo and Joan Jett vids are taken from the movie 'URGH! A Music War', which is an amazing document of the "new wave" music of the early '80's. I have an amazing copy of it on my HD, and once I get paid from my new job, I think I'll take a page from BP's Coil post and offer some copies to to those who'd like it. I'll do an FPP when I'm ready to go with it - unless the mods would prefer otherwise. Don't know what you peeps are thinking of/have found re: the whole .mp3/file sharing thing, but let me know what you think of this, and I'll abide by your judgement.
And I have to throw some Canadian Content in here.... Joey Shithead + Randy Rampage + Chuck Biscuits = D.O.A. 'World War 3' Young Canadians 'Hawaii', Pointed Sticks 'Lies', Enigmas 'Windshield Wiper'.
nice. good lookin' out, Zack.

Great stuff! My boot of Urgh may be the most played DVD I own. That movie was about the most influential thing on my music tastes in highschool. That and Trouser Press.

But if you're looking for great punk female singers from back in the day, you really should refer to the Avengers. And if you want a killer modern female singer, look no further than Brody Dalle and the Distillers.

Think I first listened to The Avengers in 198...3? 4? Everyone agreed that they rocked. They did the best version of Paint It Black ever, too.

For years the only Avengers songs I actually ever played was that killer version of Paint It Black. It wasn't until I got the CD that I realized how much other cool stuff they had.

Back in the day, I went to college with Penny Huston. When she decided to split and go do rock and roll, she had a 1-year housing contract in a coop dorm. I took over her contract and finished the school year masquerading as her with the housing office. Since I wasn't enrolled, I wasn't elegible to live there, but it was the cheapest room and board around.
