HOLY SHIT! A tree just fell down across the street, and if had been about 18" taller, it would have come through my kitchen window! →[More:]

I was stading by the sink, when all of a sudden, something big and loud started banging on my window. It was a big, swishy sort of noise, and scared the bejeezus out of me. I pulled aside my little cafe curtains and saw this!

No one was hurt, but daaaaamn that was scary! The top of the minivan is totally smooshed! And I'm so grateful it didn't crash through my kitchen window!

I'm realizing that I was fantastically lucky.

If the tree had fallen just a foot or so to the right, it would have come through the kitchen window, and there was a long piece that must have hit the side of the house, and avoided coming in my living room window.

Man, with the gliders all fragile and recouperating from surgery, a big broken window would have been incredibly stressful and difficult to deal with, and would have sent the gliders over the edge.

Whew!

It's pretty windy today, but that tree must have been pretty sick! I'll miss it, it was a beautiful birch.

Years ago we were staying temporarily at my parents' house (after we moved from Florida) and I had come back from the grocery store-and for some reason decided to park in a different place than I normally did.

That night during a storm a tree blew down-right where my car normally would have been.

It wasn't YOUR minivan, was it????

Wow! That's amazing. It seemed pretty windy today for the brief time I was outdoors, but I didn't realize it was THAT windy! Also, it looks like the van was driving down the street when it got hit by the tree. The driver must have been pretty freaked out!

YOW! Brings back memories of Hurricane Hugo--I was at my parents' house, in the middle of the woods, when it hit, at 4 am. 7 trees on the roof, many, many more down all over the place, and it all happened in the dark.

Glad you're OK, sorry for the van!

Yahhh! specklet--glad you're ok.

The '94 Northridge quake caused the neighbor's chimney to go through the roof near my bedroom (I was in Iowa at the time) and also knocked all my books off the shelves. Chupahija just left them there until I came back to LA 10 months later--I would have been willing to pay the housekeeper overtime to put them back, but the vampire told her not to touch anything. Also, the quake knocked the phone off the hook in my room and my parents forgot it was there, so I was calling for hours and just getting a busy signal.

The wind finally decided to make an appearance here last night, too - woke me up at 2:30 am. Not up to the usual wild, screaming Vardaris (our famous winter wind that sweeps down from the north) intensity yet, but squally enough to drag me out of bed for a while.
