Notes on my day so far... Add your day-so-far notes, too! [More:]

Posted my first Askme in ages; european online shoppers might go have a look.

Did my weekend shopping; failed to not buy peanut butter. Failed to not buy wine. A pound of strawberries for a euro, yay!

Saw someone who looked so much like elizard, I just wanted to run over and kiss her! That I restrained myself is evidenced by the fact that I am not writing this from jail.

No! I cannot have plain, simple. well-made black houseslippers, apparently.

Stopped for a glass of wine, and kinda avoided my stalker, a guy who walks around selling gadgets to people at outdoor cafes. Whenever he sees me alone, he comes over and sits down, and keeps saying "beautiful! Very beautiful!" and pretends not to understand me when I tell him "go away" in Greek and English. This time, as soon as I saw him coming, I got on the cell phone, and kept waving him away as he stood there for five minutes. Finally he left.

Came to the conclusion that if I were single and looking, I would hang out in the exotic foods sections of supermarkets, or ethnic foods shops... saw many remarkably attractive, interesting-looking people in my own favorite shop today... Kept matching them up in my head.

Woke up.

Got out of bed.

Realized I was too lazy to make any coffee yet.

Turned on monitor, refreshed Metachat.

Went to work. Yes, on a Saturday.

Changed the strings on one of my acoustic guitars. Yes, at the office - Saturdays are slow.

Read the hilarious Cat Spa thread in the blue.

Made a pot of coffee and drank most of it.

Ripping old jazz albums. Lots of old jazz albums. Hadn't heard some of this stuff in 20 years. Finally, I understand most of it (well, except Art Tatum. Nobody understands all of Art Tatum, although he sounds deceptively simple.) There's a point to age and decrepitude, after all.

I have to go run errands, but I'll wait until the day warms up a bit more.

Just woke up and am feeling grouchy that I have to go to work today.

The tomcat who's been living on our porch for a few weeks has done something to his eye, and I'm wondering if we can possibly catch him to take him to the vet.

I'm craving an omelet full of peppers and onions for some reason.

Mrs Geezer woke me up in the usual non-subtle ways: talking to the cat loudly, loudly dropping cat's food bowl, standing over me and breathing on my face, you know, the usual. I can't complain too much that she wants my company but a lie-in would be nice every now and then.

Toasted some hot-cross buns for breakfast.

Played with my new toy, a brand new Creative Vision:M 60GB MP3 player. It's all shiny black and Darth Vadery (without the wheezing). And I'm spending far too long fixing the tags on my MP3s before I transfer them over.

Went to the local shops and bought some sandwiches for lunch. Didn't want to punch one of the other customers, for a change.

Watched QI on DVD.

Going to do a bit more web browsing then I'm going to go out and spend the rest of the day getting drunk. It's not easy being me.

Woke up at 5.30am. Realised there was no need to be awake until at least 6.45. Let gliders out, put kettle on, read mail and MeSites

Went into work at 7:10am for huge code deployment that we thought would take no more than 2 hours.

6.5 hours later, I left work, stressed beyond belief and angry as hell.

So far today has sucked massive arse. But my sister is down with my niece, so I'm going to meet up with them and hopefully run around the local park, jumping in puddles and pointing at doggies.

But what I really need now is a drink. A big, big drink. It's five o'clock somewhere...

Slept in.

Started reading.

Ate a shwarma.

Drank coffee.

Made a MeFi FPP.

Kept reading.

Tonight I'm supposed to go to a chamber music concert. Which will be very nice. I've been cooped up in front of my computer writing for about 2 weeks straight and the tension is starting to show.

--Woke up

--Considered the extent of hangover resulting from last night's party--hell, it could be worse

--Pondered the week's developments while lying in bed, including interpersonal weirdness at work and oh-so-delicious romantic quandaries. Mentally rehearsed future conversations that will either ameliorate or exacerbate girl trouble.

--Did a little bit of apartment cleaning: throwing empty beer bottles in the garbage, etc. The blender will have to be carefully cleaned--awesome things were made in the blender last night. (Hot tip: fresh mango slices; Looza mango nectar; ice; vodka. Success!)

--Performed a cursory inventory. Drunken strangers were in my abode last evening. Is anything missing or broken? Everything looks okay.

--Had a cup of coffee.

--Heading back to sleep, I think.

Finally got a decent night's sleep.

Awakenen by two cute girls yelling, in tandem, "wake up DAD!"

Ate some pancakes that mrs. richat made for us.

Took the kids to swimming lessons.

Warmed up some coffee (the one downside to the french press method).

Read mecha.

I find it adorable and sweet and exotic, all of you being woken up by your loved ones. This doesn't happen to me, because I always wake up earlier than anyone (though I don't wake them up... I cherish my "alone" morning time).

The last time anyone woke me up early morning was over 10 years ago, when I still lived in the U.S. - and that was my cat. Cats often do wake up earlier than me, though no one else does, generally.

Ooh I like your poem, seanyboy. I love these me-to-you observations in which nothing much seems to, you know, happen. I call them "Tom's Diner" poems. Yours reminds me of this one by Jacques Prévert: Déjeuner de Matin (mp3).

He puts the coffee
In the cup
He puts the milk
In the cup of coffee
He puts the sugar
In the latte
He stirs
With the spoon
He drinks the latte
And returns the cup
Without speaking to me
He lights a cigarette
He blows rings
Of smoke
He tips the ash
Into the ashtray
Without speaking to me
Without looking at me
He gets up
And dons his hat
And dons his raincoat
Because it's raining
And he leaves
Into the rain
Without a word
Without looking at me
And me I placed
My head in my hands
And I cried.

Got up, had a brief chat with mudpuppie and lily in IRC while I drank my coffee, got dressed, drove over to east London for my regular Saturday lunchtime AA meeting.

Saw a friend there who, almost 4 years sober, picked up a drink last week. It didn't help, in fact it made the disquiet in his head get even louder, so he turned to crack cocaine. He looked like hell. And he is in torment. Damn this disease. Damn. It.

Drove back here, called in to see my lovely hairdresser and to show him a skin treatment gadget I bought a while ago which we were talking about yesterday. He'd had a treatment at the salon across the street the other week which cost him four times as much as my gadget cost to buy. He agreed it was the same thing they'd used on him and I told him they have them on eBay.

I just ate a bowl of cereal (similar to Special K but made by Nestle and on BOGOF at Waitrose) and am settling in for the day. I taped 'Fargo' last night, and will watch that after I've watched Man Utd v Portsmouth in the FA Cup.

I need to do some housework. I'll do that tomorrow.

My breast is really hurting me, in the same place that was operated on last year. It feels as if a mouse is trying to gnaw its way out.

And children. I am always awakened by my kids who yell from their bedroom "Mommy I want to get out!!!" Out of the crib, they mean, although I have considered a cage (okay okay I am joking, but only a little). Early awakening is brutal in my world.

I am trying to find a babysitter so that I can go to Pan's Labyrinth today or tomorrow. Seems like all college kids go out on weekend nights. Pheh!

Lollygagged in bed because I kept falling asleep and dreaming about Paul Weller. (A digression: this, I should say, is not a usual occurence: as much as I worship and adore Paul Weller, and blather about him frequently to anyone who will listen -- and sometimes those who will not! -- I have very rarely had actual dreams about him in the 25+ years that I have been in lurrrrve with him. This morning, however, was a very happy exception. Evidently, I am just too INSANELY EXCITED to see him 3 nights in a row next week that even my subconcious got in on the act. So here's the dream: I was at the first show of the three, and it was badly attended [which is insane, because tickets literally sold out in minutes], and the people who were there were mainly bored teenagers. I, however, am neither bored nor a teenager, so Weller -- naturally -- came offstage between songs to chat with me and to see if I'd like to go out for a drink after the show. Which: OF COURSE. So then we're hanging out after the show at some faux-English pub because he's homesick [haha], but weirdly all these bored teenagers have tagged along, and he just keeps looking at me over the edge of his pint glass like "god, how do we get rid of them?" and I'm all "KILL THEM?" and he's all "no, but you're so funny, I think I lurve you too" [he says it with his eyes, but I CAN TELL] and I'm all "STUPID CAT DON'T WAKE ME UP AAUUUGH!")

Made some tea.

Anyway, I meant to bold "made some tea," then mention that I finally dragged myself out of bed and engaged in various putterings around before coming to MeCha... but said putterings mostly involved email and CNN and delicous Greek yogurt (so good here, it must be a million times better in Greece!), which are not nearly as exciting as carrying on meaningful eye-conversations with the celebrity love of my life over a pint of Smithwicks. *sigh*

-An anti-Iraq-war protest in support of today's March on Washington. Stood on street corner with sign, talked with other peaceniks. Beefy-headed aggressive man got out of his car and came over to yell at us "I'm a proud American. You're all pussies. You want to cut and run. How do you get freedom? You fight for freedom! Scout seems okay, aside from trying to pry his collar off (frequently with all four feet), but Dill is utterly dejected. I had to hand feed him last night. It just kills me to see them panicky. Sigh.

Contemplating going to Union square greenmarket for apples before 6
Going to see second show of Get Your War On later tonight.

Carmina, I go to the kid movies that get good reviews (although Bowie was the reason I went to see Arthur and the Invisibles), but I hated Happy Feet too. The kid movies I really liked this year were the latest remake of Lassie and Monster House--which reminded me of Attack of the 50-Foot Woman. Charlotte's Web was OK, and faithful to the book, but it didn't really grab me.

Taz, has the stalker seen you with Mr. Taz?

Scody, your dream reminds me of what happened when Bowie came to Denver with NIN--they opened, Bowie joined them for the last song, then half the audience left when it was just him. I started cheering and this girl looked at me like I was an idiot--fuck her.
I had a dream once that Montgomery Clift was in my bedroom and wanted me to protect him--that was the day the owner of the place I was living in Denver said he was kicking me out. He's supposed to haunt a room in the Hollywood Roosevelt, but all that happened when I spent the night there was that I dreamed about eating a Cameo apple.

- Rigged feeding apparatus for the hindered gliders involving food dishes, brackets, shot glasses, and beach rocks. I really hope this works.

- Fretted about gliders.

- Ate small amount of leftover baked artichoke dip (I really should avoid cooking while stoned, I make the most un-healthy snacks one can imagine) on some stale toast.

- Watched a Sunshine Millions race on TV. (That's horses.)

brujita, re: yay, on the kids movies. I am catching up quickly. Last summer I saw some of the shrek ones which I thought were pretty good. I usually want something with either a nice soundrack or unusual animation. My kids are too little to understand complicated story lines and I do not care so much for trendy music in a kids movie. They get that from my radio... (so, let me know if you hear of something along these lines).

Yeah, we Weller faithful are, um, hardcore. Like obsessed hysterical hardcore. (Though I am proud to say that I've finally regained enough semi-objectivity in recent years that I can actually admit that not every single note he's ever sung/strummed has been PURE! UNADULTERATED! GENIUS! I will even admit that the Style Council put out some pretty weak records, and that there are a couple of his solo records that I think are only mildly interesting. And yet I STILL would follow him to the ends of the earth.)

A buddy of mine produced a Jam compilation a couple of year ago, and he -- a Weller fan himself! -- let me write the liner notes. So being obsessive has its benefits. I think the three shows in L.A. next week will put me close to seeing him 20 times. My best friend and boyfriend are coming along for one night, largely to watch me freak out.

Miko: Indeed it is.

My day:
* Got woke up at 7am, had toast, coffee.
* Drove my sick dad to an important meeting two hours away in the middle of bumfuck Egypt Illinois. Drank Mountain Dew.
* Had random library books my mother had lent me for the nonce. Read one. Napped. Had to move when meeting switched to room with conference phone. Peed. Coffee & MD, ya know?
* Drove back to Wisconsin. More MD.
* Stopped for lunch. My dad, combination of sick, meds, and probably his progressive dementia, asked me how I could tell the difference between my Pepsi and his Sierra Mist.
* Napped. Peed. Napped.
* Fielded calls from SIL (babysitting arrangement for 7-year-old nephew not needed), Army Reserve (for 18-year-old nephew), neighbor old lady I've known for 30 years who has a tenant problem. Diagnosed problem with hot water heater: leak puts out pilot.
* Heated up leftovers for dinner.
* Helped my mom wash dishes with boiling water.
* Helped my dad with computer. Something downloaded. He had already clicked "Install". Fortunately, it was just AOL Toolbar. Unfortunately, it closed his AOL and he lost two or three e-mails he had been writing. Stupid AOL.
* Spent half an hour plus on phone with AOL when logging in did not work. Turned out to be expired credit card. My dad's account, a freebie I had turned over to him, is 13 years old and the oldest the Bangalore tech had ever seen, so he gave us a grace period (or maybe he's just supposed to do that anyway and make it seem like he's being nice).
* Watched "The Sound of Music" with niece.
* Watched "Danger UXB" (one episode) with mom.
* Came next door to my apartment. Fed desperately hungry cat, acknowledged overall shitheelness. He forgave me.
* Logged onto internet. Look, here I am.
