"Spend enough time with this box, and it just might turn you into a closet goth." Actually, reading this review of this AMAZING-sounding box set reminds me that I've been a closet goth* for almost a quarter century. [More:] *(And when I say closet goth, I mean that I never dressed the part, even though this music was/is the soundtrack to much of my life.)
Huh. I thought I coined the term "closet goth".

I dress like a goth, if wearing all black is goth, and I like most of those bands, if they're goth (Bauhaus? Really?) but I've really never thought of myself as goth. Goth is my son's Big Brother, who walks around town in an ankle length velvet cape with a fancy case containing a cut glass decanter of fake blood. It's mysterious.

Oh, heck yeah! "Bela Lugosi's Dead"? Music appearing in The Hunger? They totally qualify. :)

Not as goth as walking around with a decanter of fake blood, though... that's wonderful. Heh!

I remember going to the very first Lollapalooza, sitting out in the sun watching a crowd of goths in front of us with their pale, pale skin and heavy velvet clothes. It was a hot August day in Georgia, and my friends and I were placing bets on which one of the goths was going to be the first to either pass out, or spontaneously combust.

Fake blood is SO goth!

Best of all, it's the rare box set a person can buy to sink into a world that-- unless you've been a serious goth all along-- feels alien and new

I seem to be more goth than I thought. I know all those bands. But I always felt deficient next to the velvet-and-PVC crowd.

This box set sounds really good!

Heh, yeah, wearing all that shit in hot weather always gets me. On a couple of occasions I've happened to go to Kings Dominion theme park on Freak Day ... how those kids can stand in line in the Summer sun and simultaneously make a (anti)fashion statement is beyond me.

Freak Day sounds like a hoot! But man, there's no way I could wear the necessary regalia on a hot summer's day, even in my younger days.

(Reminds me of when I saw the Cure at the same outdoor venue mentioned above, and I wore a hawaiian shirt. You could have spotted me from a helicopter.)

halonine, I was surprised at how many of these bands I know, too... just about all of them. I looked it up on Amazon and it appears to have a great track list.

I bought this box set for Mrs Geezer for Christmas. Firstly the leather corset it comes in looks so fucking cool. Secondly, the book that it comes with it is really very good indeed. Also the DVD disc is excellent. If you're tempted, it's well worth it.
