A score at the used-CD shop for me yesterday. [More:]Yesterday I saw, still in its wrapper, the Japanese import version of Duran Duran's legendary cover album Thank You, priced at a mere eight dollars. I could not resist.

Needless to say, it exceeded my expectations. It's not just that one of the covers is of Public Enemy's "911 Is a Joke", but that when Simon LeBon raps he actually seems to be attempting a Flavor Flav impression.

Duran Duran covering Public Enemy, with LeBon as Flavor Flav. Think on that.
This thread is useless without a yousendit link. :)

Cool find.

The cover of "Thank You" (the Led Zep song) is the best one on there, I think.

@JanetLand--I wish I could manage that, but my at-work status prevents it, and I don't have the CD with me anyway. But if I could somehow download the song from my head, where it's been repeating itself since I arrived at work, rest assured that I would, the better to spread the love.

@BoringPostcards--admittedly, the cover of "White Lines" isn't half bad either (partly because LeBon sings rather than raps). And the extra track on the Japanese release is Bowie's "Diamond Dogs."

When I am emperor, the heads of Duran Duran will adorn pikes on my lawn. I shall drink beer from their craniums, wear their testicles as jewelery, feed their entrails to feral swine...

I'm against them, you could say.

Oh man I would love to hear this. It sounds so kitschy.

I was so bummed when that album came out, because I saw them live on the tour before and the live version of White Lines just killed. It was surprisingly edgey and the rhythm section just rocked. And on the record the version is tepid, slower, and not funky at all.

I'd forgotten this Costello cover... thanks, arse_hat!

*unlocks pitchfork and torch cabinet and passes out same to all Duran Duran fans*

I like Duran Duran. This album killed their career - what more do you want?

I actually quite liked the two albums they released after this one (Medazzaland and Pop Trash, both of which sold poorly, IIRC). They're almost experimental in some ways--weird time signatures and things like that.
