How well-known is this website? [More:]I used it to answer an AskMe question and was re-flabbergasted by its awesomeness. It's such a great magic trick: hear a song you don't recognize, dial the number, hold your cell phone up to the speakers playing the song in question, and a few seconds later, the service texts you with the artist and song information. WahwahWEEwah! I've tried it five or six times with some moderately obscure stuff, and can't remember it ever crapping out.

I was surprised to see that it hadn't been FPP'd before, but is that because everyone's already familiar with it? Also, could an FPP about it be considered Pepsi Blue, seeing as how it's a pay (albeit cheap) service after your first ID?
I hadn't heard about it. Go ahead and post it, what the hell. The worst that could happen is that it'll get deleted or you'll get Meta'd. Not the end of the world. Fly butterfly fly.

Fixed link here. Weird, it worked on preview.

Oh, I'm not worried about anyone's reaction. I just don't want to bother with it if it's something everyone's already heard of.

Nope, don't think so. Go ahead.

I think you have to use the www to access the url. I've never heard of it.

Never heard of it. Wouldn't use it, but that's beside the point. Post away.

I have not heard of this particular one, but it might be worth mentioning the UK original, Shazam (2580 in the UK), which I've used to ID songs on AskMe in the past. 411-SONG is run by NMK, who partnered with Shazam to use their music recognition technology.

Incidentally, nobody in the UK seems to have heard of Shazam either, so it's clear that both companies are doing a piss-poor job of marketing this amazing service.

I've definately seen similar services mentioned at MetaFilter, dunno about a FPP though. Just ignore the haters who inevitably will have something bad to say...they don't represent the majority of readers who will appreciate the link quietly.

You know that thing I do where I say - Hey, I posted that years ago....
And then everyone has a go at me because at heart I'm a bit of a know it all.

I know what you mean. I posted Google Earth three years before it was released, and nobody appreciated it. *hrumph*
