Ok, Oregon, what the hell is up with the 100 MPH winds? No one told me about this part.[More:] Trees down outside, water blown sideways into unusual places, power glitching over and over again.

ATTENTION WEATHER: DO NOT FUCK WITH MY POWER, MY INTERNET CONNECTION OR MY COMPUTER OR I'LL KICK YOUR FUCKING ASS, OK?
YOU ARE NOT KIDDING AS IF YOU WERE KIDDING IN THAT JOCULAR ONLINE PERSONA KIDDING THAT KIDS WITH KIDDING TONE = MY ENTIRE HOUSE WAS OFFLINED AND REBOOTED IN A MASSIVE DOS ATTACK THAT INVOLVED ELECTRICAL DENIAL OF SERVICE

YES IN FACT THE WINDS WERE HIGH - FULL OF MEDICAL MARY JANE AS YOU KNOW IS PERMISSIVE IN THIS STATE DESPITE ALBERTO GONZALEZ NOT RECOGNIZING THE DEEP IRONY OF THE ORIGINAL COLORADO PROHIBITIONS DESIGNED TO ATTACK BROWN PEOPLE LOOKING VAUGELY LIKE HIM

ATZLAN AND JUICYJUICE!

Huh? I thought you were in Az, loq? I musta missed something.

Orygun will have some kickass weather, doncha know. The mouth of the Columbia river has one of the greatest densities of shipwrecks anywhere in the world.

HA! YOU THINK YOU'VE GOT IT ROUGH, LOQ? TRY THE SOUTHERN GULF ISLANDS. WE'VE HAD MORE POWER OUTAGES THAN I CAN COUNT IN THE LAST 3 WEEKS, AND THIS STORM COULD SHUT US DOWN FOR DAYS. AGAIN. THANK FUCK I BOUGHT THAT LAPTOP AND THE PHONE LINES WORK MORE THAN THE POWER LINES. OH, AND HERE NO POWER = NO WATER = NO TOILET, NO SHOWER, AND WORST OF ALL, NO FUCKING CAFFEINE. SUCK THAT. BUT YEAH, THIS SUCKS TURNIPS THROUGH A GARDEN HOSE. WORST WINTER IN YEARS, I HEAR. AND WAS THAT SNOW I SAW FOR A FEW MINUTES THERE? GET THE FUCK BACK TO GREENLAND WHERE YOU BELONG, I SAYS! ON THE UP-SIDE, I'M LEARNING ALL SORTS OF THINGS YOU CAN MAKE ON THE TOP OF THE WOODSTOVE!

ALSO, SIMPLICISSIMUS I CANNOT FOR THE LIFE OF ME FIGURE OUT WHAT YOU'RE SAYING! I MAY NOT BE HIGH ENOUGH!

Good lord.
I thought I had it bad living in Arkansas and using a dialup connection.

/me remembers not to bitch about it so much.

Best wishes to all. Hope it all turns out ok.

omg! Okay with no toilet and no shower... but NO COFFEE? That's too much. You have to get something like this from somewhere that sells camping equipment. Or any hardware store is likely to have something similar.

Almost every Greek household has an inexpensive little butane burner thingy (something like this, but I think they are cheaper) that people use for making Greek coffee instead of wasting stove electricity, and I've used it when the electric goes for coffee and heating up food. Very handy.

I am highly confused by this thread, and can't figure out when it turned into a shouting thread.

Triode: I escaped the anus of Satan several months ago to go adventuring here in the Pacific Northwest.

Taz: JetBoil is the new hyperfunctional ultraportable stove thingy. It even has a french press attachment you can get for the cup so you can make real coffee anywhere. It's freakin' insane. It'll boil water in seconds, too.

So...i came home from work to find the power out. I've been stuck indoors all night with no food, cold and miserable. I was scared to go out to grab a bite because of the high winds. A traffic light at the intersection to my house crashed onto someone's car about 2 hours ago.

The power just came on after 6 hrs! What a day!!!

ooh, the jetboil is cool! But kind of pricey; around $150 with all the attachements, but if you are backpacking it's probably worth it.

Well Eugene made it through. . .50 mph winds and my huge cedar trees came through fine. .. they have a tendency to shed huge limbs in storms. They are actually "aimed" at the neighbors houses but I fret about them every time we get a wind.

As elizard says, southern BC has been hit pretty hard by these storms as well. I'm sooo glad we're out of the tin can now because, same as elizard, no power meant no water, no toilet, no shower. Here in the house we're still all electric but at least we get water and the hot water heater is huge and stays hot for a long time and we have a wood-burning fireplace for an alternative heat source.

WE HAVE TO SHOUT TO HEAR OUR VOICES OVER THE INFERNAL HOWLING OF THE WIND.

Huge ass 50-60 foot tree came down last night and missed an uninhabited portable building by about, oh, 2 inches. I've got my wary eye on the sisters of said tree, all of which are much, much taller and could possibly be my doom. At least I still have power/net.

Oh, and in between blissful pockets of bright sun this afternoon there was about 30 minutes where it was raining, sleeting, hailing and snowing all at the same damn time. What the fuck? Make up your mind, already!

Oh for goodness sakes. Do I have to spell it out for you people? Power out == time for hot sex. The risk of a 200 ft. douglas fir breaking open your bedroom for all the world to see just makes it that much kinkier.
