Amy Winehouse is a UK singer whose new album is getting fantastic reviews. She sings 1960's-style soul and has an amazing voice.[More:]She's also fairly entertaining when not singing, although more in a OMG way (check out her recent appearance on episode 4 of Never Mind The Buzzcocks). Anyway, for your listening perusal are three tracks from her new album, Back To Black: Rehab, Back To Black and Love Is A Losing Game.
I got "Frank" after everyone insisted she was the best thing ever. Everyone was all "You should really listen to Fuck Me Pumps. Its so brilliant".

I never really got it. The voice is too nasal for my liking, the music isn't any fun, the lyrics are cliched and badly written.

So yeah - I never really understood the appeal. I assume that the music's got a London feel that doesn't really gel with what I like. Or something. I don't know.

I was pretty non-plussed by Frank as well, but this album is much better. Gone on, download that zip file, give the tracks 2 or 3 spins and see what you think :)

No that is a lot better.
I take it back.

*calling jonmc; this is probably something you'd like too*

I really like her voice, but I've never got around to buying the records. She always looks fucking great, too - her current 'massive beehive hairdo with stuffed birds peeking out of it/wifebeater vest with braces over the top' look totally rules. I may have a small crush on her, come to think of it.

She's constantly getting leathered and making a tit of herself in the pub my cousin runs, which has been rather handy for them as they get a mention in the gossip columns/Popbitch/Holy Moly every other week as a 'trendy Camden watering hole' (why are pubs always called 'watering holes' in gossip columns?).

Oh, and the Hot Chip remix of Rehab is rather jolly, though exactly as you'd expect it to sound: here you go.

So I did dun use teh word rong?

TheDonF: you're in good company, I saw it heading a list of words misused by newspaper editors.

The goodness of the company depends on the paper, I guess :) I wonder if there is a word that means what people assume non-plussed means?

Does anyone here play backgammon? || Ask MeCha: who might this band have been?
