Does anyone here play backgammon? Do you ever play online? Are there online places that let you play with a specific other player? →[More:]

I'm weirdly shy about playing online with strangers... I go and look at the sites some times, then I see screenshots with little chat windows, and I get freaked out and leave. I don't really want to chat with a random stranger... but it would be amazingly cool to play online with another metachatter or me-mo-fite. I wonder if this is possible.

I don't play backgammon online, but Yahoo Games lets you play pretty much any game you want against anyone you could dream of.* And yes, there is backgammon. But advance warning: their Java mumbojumbo crashes Firefox for me every time, so don't even bother with the frustration. There's some kind of extention incompatibility (with adblock maybe) so just bite the bullet and use IE.

*only a slight exaggeration

Just to say, i use to play literati online with a borked keyboard and would let people know i couldn't really chat. No one ever had a problem with it, and, of what little i know of it, people never said much more than "good move" or "good game", etc.

i haven't played backgammon in years. i remember my grandmother teaching me how to play when i was a kid, and we used to play all the time whenever the family would visit. i'd love to re-learn how to play.
