Ahhhhh, much better now. If only we could have flowers like that to hear animals talk. Though I'm not sure I'd like what they'd say.

Those backgrounds are unusually spare as McCay goes, but I like them. They're simple, but they say quite a lot.

Good spot, John--especially compared to his usual fantastic cities crammed full of detail, many of McCay's cartoons from this period are really minimal, like the last one I posted (featuring backgrounds of white snowy hills that are all just basic outlined shapes, with even an evergreen tree left uncolored.)

This seems to be his minimal period and also his stint of animal activism.

Made me think (for some reason) of the background on MetaChat. After being away for a bit, I'd forgotten we lost the shading.
