Got those leavin'-the-city, own-too-much-crap blues. [More:]How in the name of sweet buttery jeebus did I manage to accumulate so much frigging stuff? Anyone want a bunch of tea light holders? People just keep giving 'em to me and I prefer actual candles. No? How about some 15-year-old Latin American political history textbooks? Crap. I already packed those. What was I thinking? Also, how many cookbooks should one person own?

Thank heaven for radio free sciurus.
Also, why do I have so much vinyl? Why do I refuse to part with it? I haven't had a turntable in a decade.

Hahahaha, it's always interesting when packing to look through your stuff and be like, @#^@*#&@^, why did I keep that????

You can never have too many cookbooks. Sorry I had to bail, but it is time to max and relax.

elizard, I'm there with you, honey. I love my stuff, yes I do. Stuff stuff stuff. When I moved out Portland six years ago, I made everything I owned fit into my Ford Festiva. Now, I don't know if my glassware would fit in an economy car.

Absolutely!

Absolutely! - applies to both TPS and Sciurus's comments.

As much as I would love to take your vinyl if you find the need to part with it, I applaud you for keeping it and hope that you get yourself a turntable in the new place. (Make a dish, rock out!)

Some kind of parsing error cut out the rest of my comment (I tried to make a little text arrow and got busted, but it made it through on repost only to take away half the comment). I need to go home.

I'm keeping the rare stuff and jettisoning the rest. Most of the albums I liked I now have on cd anyway. I did come across this old photo of the year I did my face as the 'Tattoo You' album cover for Halloween. Unfortunately (or fortunately) my friend had already taken a shot on that frame of the Edmonton skyline. Heh.

Remember that zucchini recipe I posted that included a flamethrower? Do you still have that flamethrower?

Military intelligence.

Cool makeup job, though.

Every time we move, we need a bigger truck. I'm considerin' a freight train next time. Sad to see LPs go... digital jukeboxes just aren't the same.

(I love me some Latin American history, by the by...)

Having just gone through all of that, elizard, I can empathize only mine was more unpacking than packing. Most of my stuff had been in storage for several years. It was a combo of "Oh, this is like Christmas!" and "Why in hell did I keep this?!".

Thanks, hangashore. Indeed, thanks everyone for the empathy and larfs. And yes, that is a Cthulhu for President pin, in case anyone's wondering.

How many cookbooks does one need? That depends on the reliability of your internet connection and your skills with google.
posted by mischief 14 November | 23:57
I prefer to think of the two as complementary, mischief. Mostly because that justifies having 3 shelves' worth of cookbooks and food porn (aka cooking magazines), but also because most of my books are specialized (some ethnic, some vegetarian, one historically interesting), and many are by authors I know give good advice.

Ah, food porn, that's different.

TPS, I have still not forgiven you for throwing that fabulous plastic cow away when you moved.
