Yeah, I grew up in earthquake country in CA. I was wondering when I'd feel my first quake up here, but this one doesn't really count for me.
I have an earthquake kit and stuff. We don't have volcanos down there but I've been through some decent quakes. (Landers, North Ridge, Whittier Narrows, other minor ones.) We "quake surfed" when we were kids by watching broadcast news, seeing the quake hit their studio and knowing we had about 15-30 seconds to get ready and surf the ground/table/couch/whatever.
I just haven't gotten around to moving that stuff and I should know better.
Did you guys know that a quake as small as 7.5-8.0 could be enough to throw you bodily into the air?

I dunno about that. Maybe if you were standing at the epicentre and it wasn't too far down. I was in Oakland during the Loma Prieta quake and even at 7.1 it wasn't even enough to lightly toss me a wee bit into the air.
Yeah, epicenter stuff. Richter measurements at epicenter/hypocenter need to be scaled w/ distance, ground material, wave type, etc.
I was reading about some 8.5 monster, i think it was in Chile or Argentina where people were getting tossed around like popcorn, probably more 'cause of the wave type and ground material than sheer magnitude.
That's strange. Last night while washing the dishes, I saw a couple cups slide off the little shelf by the sink. I caught, them, but wondered if it was a small earthquake that caused it.
Although Portland DOES have a number of known faults, while in Eugene they are suspected but have not been actually found.
Portland just knows that I was in Loma Prieta and 2 medium-large quakes in Seattle, and it's trying to convince me that it's as tough as the big boys, so I'll move there.
I'll take earthquakes over ice storms, hurricanes and tornados any day. Though, an ice storm would be pretty. And being in a hurricane would probably be pretty cool. But tornados just freak my shit out.
It's worth noting that at the exact time of the earthquake, I was rehearsing with The Harvey Girls.
That is how badass we are: when I rock the banjo, it's seismic.
And yeah, there are two Standard buildings -- the Center and the Plaza. We also have a lot of space in the Public Service Building just a block west of the Center, where Niketown lives.
Grew up on SoCal so I'm familiar with earthquakes as well. Just missed the Northridge quake by a few days due to moving to Texas. I'm surprised we've only had one since I've been in BC. Probably time for another one.
And y'all haven't been through an ice storm 'til you've been through one in Texas. *reads pie's link* Well, maybe you have. They're just like that. At least once a year I couldn't go to work for a two or three days because my car was encased in two/three/four inches of ice. And, of course, I didn't find that out until I had gone down a flight of stairs encased in same.
