That sux. Well, at least now I won't have to sit at home seething with envy at you.

Ah dammit. I have no idea what the Mets do, but I'm sorry anyway.

Well if the Mets had gotten their shit together there wouldn't be any game to go to, so I guess I could look at it that way....

but still: FUCK!

*straps essexjan in chair with Mets hat on her head*

The Mets are one of New York's 2 pro baseball teams. Their home field is Shea Stadium in Flushing, Queens home to Joe Famous and a hop, skip and a jump from Me & Pips, Pinky, and several other bunnies. The game tonight will decide whether they or the St. Louis Cardinals will advance to the world series where they will play the Detroit Tigers for the World Championship.

Now repeat after me: LET's GO METS! LET'S GO METS!

Ah, fucking fuck, gaspode!

Take it as a sign that you weren't meant to go. Either something bad is going to happen there, or something really good will happen to you wherever you end up.

Oh I see. You mean like the Yankees!
posted by essexjan 19 October | 14:54
Exactly like the Yankees except they represent goodness and home cooking and love and sunlight and the ultimate redemption of the human race and the Yankees represent facism, malls, evil, elevator farts, undercooked chicken, stale urine odors and getting locked out of your house at three am without any pants on.
posted by Divine_Wino 19 October | 14:58
Yeah, the Wino pretty much sums it up.

What's *really* frustrating is that I had a feeling I would get tickets, given that I work in the Bronx and the Yankees tickets are far more popular (you have to apply well before the playoffs start and can only pick one team). I should have made more of an effort to check my email.

*sighs*

Well hopefully the Mets will lose tonight and you will not feel bad about missing the game that way. =P

"I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all." Eccl 9:11

George Orwell quoted this passage from Ecclesiastes in his essay Politics and the English Language as an example of honest, direct language drawn from the simple words of everyday life, but it sure seems applicable to your circumstance, gaspode. Not to mention, to that of the Mets, too.

Shit Happens.

There, paired that down a little for ya.

It's a lovely bit of words.

"...Shit Happens. ..."

That would be the way you'd restate the principle, for this poor guy.

Oh, gaspode that sucks!! :P So sorry to hear it...

...but I'm glad to see ya made it home okay! :)

Don't worry about it. They're all chuckers anyway.

Personally, I support the Pies.
And I hate the fucking Swans.

*confuses everyone. Except perhaps dg*

Heh, GeckoDundee did I mention I was going to the cricket world cup?
posted by gaspode 19 October | 18:43
Hi Gaspode. Yeah, that's what prompted me to respond. I suppose what I should've said was "don't worry about a stupid game of rounders when you're off to the World Cup in the West Indies", but I thought some of our North American bunnies might have taken it the wrong way.

Never had you picked as a Collingwood fan, seanyboy, but now that you mention it...

To be fair, cricket does seem like a great way to spend two days letting people know you have a nice ribbed sweater
posted by Divine_Wino 19 October | 22:05
Obviously it was my fault they lost.
posted by gaspode 19 October | 22:44
Two days! Lol! You must have only watched Australia versus England games then. If the teams are evenly balanced, it's supposed to go for five days.

Gaspode, unfortunately, is only going to the World Cup. This is a great way to spend one day letting people know you have nice pajamas. (I believe I linked to that when gaspode first told us she was going).

But, the World Cup is going to be in Barbados. Any form of cricket in Barbados would be utterly awesome. I'm seething with envy.

(It would of course take a better man than me to admit that watching the Mets play at Shea Stadium would be nudging watching the Windies play a test in Barbados in my top five sporting experience wish list).

It wasn't you Gaspode my darlin', it was that whoresmelt Beltron who I blame. Take the damn bat off your shoulder you overpaid hump, you lackwit, you mommas boy, you rancid fish sandwich, a curse on you. Graaaaggghhhh!

Generally I love the Mets more when they lose (gotta lotta love) but this one is hard to take.
