06 October 2006

THIS IS MY SECOND SHOUTING THREAD THIS WEEK! [More:]I HAVE JUST BEEN TOLD THAT, DESPITE ACHIEVING A CLOSURE TARGET OF 186.4%, MY BONUS WILL BE CALCULATED ONLY ON THE FIRST FOUR WEEKS OF THE PERIOD (I.E. APRIL) BECAUSE I WAS ON SICK LEAVE FOR 6 WEEKS FROM THE BEGINNING OF MAY TO MID-JUNE.

SINCE I CAME BACK TO WORK I HAVE WORKED LIKE STINK TO CLOSE CASES BUT THEY WON'T TAKE THAT INTO ACCOUNT.

SO MY BONUS WILL BE JUST £209 BEFORE TAX AND INSURANCE OF 51% IS DEDUCTED, INSTEAD OF THE £2,250 WHICH EVERYBODY ELSE WHO IS ON TARGET IS GETTING.

I HAVE TOLD MY MANAGER THAT I THINK THIS IS UNFAIR AND HE HAS PROMISED TO RAISE IT WITH THE POWERS THAT BE BUT I AM NOT HOLDING OUT MUCH HOPE.
that IS unfair. it's totally ridiculous and a violation of the entire motivational spirit of the policy.

Did the £2250-getters do a lot (order of magnitude) more cases than you? If not, then this stinks.

Punished for being sick. Splendid.

jan, I want to jump on a plane just to give you a hug today. Sigh.

EJ, THAT'S TOTAL BULLSHIT! I REALLY HOPE THE "POWERS THAT BE" REALIZED HOW ABSOLUTELY STUPID THAT IS AND STRAIGHTEN THAT BULLSHIT OUT!

TO SUMMARIZE: BULLLLLLSSSHHHHHIIIIITTTTTT

No, we all have the same target. In fact, I and a couple of others have a higher target because we are on a higher grade.

complete, total bullshit.

(((EJ)))

I hope you get your bonus, afterall you did EARN it. If you don't is there any legal action you can take against them?
posted by LunaticFringe 06 October | 08:57
No, LF, I would contemplate ruining my career prospects over a couple of grand. Suing them isn't worth it.
posted by essexjan 06 October | 09:04
Well, I hope they realize that they're being complete prats then and give you what you deserve.

That's just wrong. I hope it works out for you, ej.

Ridiculous and terribly wrong, EJ. I'm sorry to hear it. Shouldn't extenuating circumstances account for something?

I'm sorry to hear this EJ!

I thought of you today. I saw a license plate that said "LADYEJ 2". Lady EJ... that's you!

So you managed to do your work and do a very good job of it despite being out of the office for a month and a half?

Shouldn't they be giving you more?

I mean, I don't know exactly what your job entails but accomplishing your work goals in a dramatically shorter period of time than what you had originally budgeted suggests very high levels of productivity, which is something I thought managers liked to encourage.

This sucks. It's assholery.

Jan, from this and a few other comments, it seems like your employers are tyrannical, stupid, cheap, and dishonorable. (You haven't said that, but that's the picture I'm getting based purely on their actions.)

Can't you try to leave these idiots for a better position? - Or even, the same position at a place that doesn't treat you like shit?

They are generally good employers in terms of benefits, working conditions, etc., but always like to screw people out of bonuses where possible.

We're not talking big bucks, about two grand before 51% tax/insurance is deducted. I like my job, I have a lot of flexibility (I can wear what I like, as all our case-handling is paper-based so I don't get to see the public, I can work two days a week at home, fix whatever hours in the office suit me, nice building, good cubies, lovely cheap cafe, fantastic benefits, seven weeks holiday a year ....) but this kind of penny-pinching attitude sticks in my craw and I'll fight my corner hard on this.

The bonus is fixed - nobody can get more than £2,250, and most get around £1,000. I've always had the max, so I'm going to argue that I should have it this time too.

But I won't leave. It really is the best job I've ever had. Sometimes I have to work hard, but mostly I don't, there's plenty of time to goof off, I never have to work overtime or miss my lunch hour, and the job is pretty-much stress free. You can't buy that.

Yes, the rest sounds good... too good to huff off, I guess. :) I'm glad you're going to fight for what's fair, though.

seven weeks holiday a year

Holy shit! I thought I was living large with my 3.5 weeks a year.

Yeah. I see where you're coming from. "Stress-free" is a fringe benefit not to be cast aside lightly.

And seven weeks (paid, at least) is more vacation than I've had in my adult life. That too is not to be cast aside lightly.

Keep fighting the good fight.
