No news is good news, right? So how do you spell double partial nephrawhateverit'scalled?[More:]

That's the procedure my friend is likely to have, where they're going to take out like half of each kidney in order to get all of the tumor out. We still don't know if they're cancerous or just tumors. He's got to talk to the docs at the UCLA Medical Center again to see what's what, and then he's going to go in for the surgery.

I was a mess when I talked to him, because his natural pessimism was infecting my optimism. And then my realist boyfriend snapped me out of the pessimism.

I hate being an optimist sometimes.
Hey, aren't kidneys the ones that grow back? Or is that the liver?

Anyway, operations suck, but they mostly make things better. My dad had a plum-sized tumor removed from his thyroid when I was a kid - that really opened my eyes to how organic and inherently flawed we all are.

I can only imagine that kidney surgery is going to really fucking hurt. I can hardly stand the thought.

I hope that it works.
