New policy at work [More:]A new internet/email policy was put into place at work today. All internet use is to be monitored and there's to be absolutely no participation in any forums, messageboards, chatrooms (we've never been able to access those) or email lists, unless work-related and pre-approved by management.

I don't spend much time on MeCha (or MeFi) when I'm at work, but it's nice to dip into over that first coffee (as I did today) or at lunchtime.

But no more :-(

Except on my 'work from home' days :-)
Well, that just sucks!

I suppose there's no chance of getting MeCha pre-approved by management? Can you introduce someone in management here, get them addicted and then get them to pre-approve it? Probably not.

I am really lucky in this respect in that, although everything is monitored, we are allowed "reasonable personal use" of the Internet. That has been defined as up to 200 MB per month, which seems reasonable. The only guideline is that any material viewed must be appropriate to the workplace. Of course, our department regularly tops the list of departments whose employees have been caught downloading pr0n at work. Why people do this when they know it is being monitored is beyond me.

The last thing I would want is someone at work hanging out in my best 'play' site, dg. I don't do a lot of 'fun' browsing at work, most of my browsing is on news sites or reading law reports, so I can suck it up and save MeCha for home.

Anyway, the only two candidates are the manager who makes us have Humptse on the cabinet, or his assistant who can barely fathom his way round the computer and who batters his keyboard as if it's an old Remington manual.

DumbCo may be dumb, but they've never really questioned my Internet usage even when I'm looking at hentai--because it's part of my job!!!

I once had to work on a title that featured women in bikinis wrestling in baby oil in those little inflatable pool thingies. I can look at the trailers you can download from this site whenever I want to, because I have to enter those titles in the database!

I spent 10 minutes browsing Wikipedia once because I had to look up an obscure European metal band.

Free Internet usage rocks.

Even with a short absence you will be missed.

Well, at least you can still work naked. You can still work naked, right?

Aw. For three years I had jobs where I couldn't surf the Internet. It was hard.

Only in the office. At home it scares the cats.
