You're an early bird.

I've just woken up and am currently staggering around like a dog with an ear infection. Mornings and me don't get on.

On the positive side, I had the maddest sci-fi dream last night. It's drifting away now but I remember being controlled by a piece of metal tubing I wore on my finger and something about the ship going too fast and it causing weirdness.

I think the dream was caused by watching The Island last night. I thought it was quite a good film.

I got in at 8 this morning and thought that was a near miracle. Of course I wouldn't have needed to if that Johnny Red link hadn't been posted to MeFi yesterday.

I also love being in the office in the early morning, though with our housekeeper I'm more likely to hear a small portable radio tuned to Country & Western than singing.

These days, I find my mornings are much more productive now that Metafilter/AskMe seem to be dead until the US wakes up. Long may it last.

altolinguistic, thanks for confirming Meta is indeed dead until the US wakes up. I was going to post a question to MetaTalk about it because it seemed strange.

And EssexJan? 7am? Office? Are you trying to avoid rush hour on the M25 or something?

I totally dig being somewhere before the main crowd arrives. There's tons of stuff they miss by sticking to the beaten path. This way you get it to yourself!

I'm also a big fan of getting to the office early. Traffic is lighter at 6AM and I get so much done in the hour or two before rest of the office gets in. Plus I can crank the stereo. The only downside is that by 3 in the afternoon I'm usually pretty wiped.

I'm just coming back from a 10 day vacation and probably should have gone in early today, but I opted to grab just a few more hours of free time before what will most likely two of the most stressful weeks at work of this year. When I head out for work in 75 minutes I'm in for long haul.

And EssexJan? 7am? Office? Are you trying to avoid rush hour on the M25 or something?

I'm a morning person, and we have flexible hours in the office, so I work 7am to around 3.45pm (doing an extra 45 mins, to make it look good, and to make up for the w hours surfing a day I probably do).

I only do this 3 days a week. The other two I work from home, so don't need to be up at 5.30am.

I avoid rush hour on the Underground and DLR, and when you're only 4'11" like me, being sardined onto a train at armpit level is no fun, so the early commute suits me just fine.

essexjan, that makes sense. I had a terrible thought you actually arrived in the office at 7am and stayed until 5pm or so :)

I always liked working early, because it seems that I'd see all sorts of interesting things on the way to work. Gorgeous sunrises, guinea hens and peafowl crossing the roads, less traffic (mostly). I even once saw a coyote crossing a field here in New Jersey (central). It was quite unexpected and neat, with one of those McMansion developments in the background.
