September's a good poetic month. The romance of summer is ending, the disciplined flurry of fall is beginning, the prospect of lonely winter nights and the pressure or delight of social holidays surrounded by family is approaching.

September always makes me feel energized, and forward-looking, and sad, all at the same time.

My hypothesis: Summer is for Beach Boys, winter is for carols, spring is for love songs. I think only fall elicits the true hopeful melancholy that inspires great songwriting.
