Earth Shoes n Bell Bottoms [More:]
Did your moms make you rock 'em like me?
No, my mom tortured me with sleeveless sweaters and checkered shorts. We were both victims of the fashions of the era, joe. Maybe we could form a support group. The fact that we both dress with such flair today is a testament to our inner style child. or something.

Peep the courdorys! lol.

I was forced to part my hair along the side and wear polo shirts, khakis, loafers and belts.

This suit still rules though.

Aw look at you playing the piano. How cute. I think you look nice, but then again, I am a mom.

*picks some lint off of Joe's sweater and straightens his collar*

Sciurus, that suit is HOT dude!

Iconomy, I'm sure if I had kids they's be saying the same thing about me.
"Nobody wears thier pants around thier waists anymore dad...UGH..your so out of it!"

Haha

*sigh* I miss the 70s.

I had a bright green (of course) Monkees shirt. I can honestly say I was the one who wanted it. Looked great with my gold bellbottoms.

Did your mom get her style cues from the Kennedys like mine? How she spawned me, I'll never know.

Are those really Earth Shoes? I thought that the heel on Earth Shoes was lower to the ground. . .never had any but had my share of Birkenstocks. . .
posted by danf 31 August | 11:06
I know that's what Mom called them, Danf. Chunky, rubber-gum sole with a faux suede upper..or something.

Are those really Earth Shoes?

They were, but then he stepped in a puddle. Now they're Mud Shoes.

Moon boots would have been good.

I'm wearing my favorite Earth shoes right now...

My whole bedroom will be newly furnished by the Goodwill. IT DOES RULE!

Is pretty much exactly what I was wearing.

This is me in 1975. Yellow is SO not my colour, but I had no idea of what did or didn't suit me. The watch had a big thick chunky carved leather strap, with a thinner strap that fed through it. The watch was a Timex diver's watch. I may still have it somewhere. Platform shoes of course. I thought I was fat.

I dunno, being a child seems to be about your parents experimenting with your looks, and beeing a teenager seems to be a bout you experimenting with your looks. It's only now, at 35, that I'm starting to look (on the outside) like my actual self.
posted by jonmc 31 August | 12:08
Hmm, that's interesting jonmc. I pretty much look the same as I looked in childhood and adolescence. I wonder what that says about me? :)
posted by JanetLand 31 August | 13:13
I dunno, maybe you found your style early. I aquired it a bit at a time. But it's costly to maintain. I need more ballcaps, t-shirts and cheap jewelery, so I updated my wishlist. Help a brother out...

The 60's shall live again!! Compared to 64-67, the 70's were one long bummer ending with Reagan's election.

* burns a big fat one in memorium *

I wish I could scan some awful pictures of myself in my youth. There's photographic evidence of me in plaid pants, hand-me-downs from my cousins, and the butt-length hair I had until I was 12. I still remember my favorite pair of pants in the very early 80's. They were thin denim, bell bottoms, high waisted, with two zippers about six inches on either side from my belly button. Dated? Sure, but I loved 'em!

Green plaid pants. Sigh. Did not help my efforts to "fit in" in my new school, after I went to live with my dad. Fifth graders can be cruel.
