poetryfilter: I've been thinking today about the differences in poetry style the two sides of the pond. Especially after trying to read
Ellyn Maybe's "Walking Barefoot in the Glassblowers Museum".

I couldn't stand this book. Every mention of mood rings had me reaching for something hard to hit somebody with. Her poems are too wordy, too cliched. Metaphors are used randomly and too often. When I read the poems out aloud, they just sound wrong. Which is strange because she seems to be quite acclaimed. She's supposed to be a "natural successor" to Ginsberg. There are definitely stylistic differences between what she writes and what I expect.
So, questions. Do Americans feel the same dissonance when they read modern British poets?
Have any of you read her work and liked it?
