amro's almost right. The 1/2 leg is actually folded in on itself. But it took me awhile--to get over the shock of how fugly this spider was, I guess--before I noticed the poor critter was not really an arachnid anymore. shane, are you afraid of spiders? :-P
But this is what I'm suggesting for a theme...pictures that at first glance look "ordinary" but something's subtly--or not--wrong with it. The BEST example I could give (but the picture has long been lost) of this was when a friend of mine took a picture of her odometer when it turned over 100,000 miles. She was so excited when she got it developed and passed it around work at lunch. Everyone else feigned interest, but I freaked out. Why? I was the only one to notice that the friggin' speedometer was pegged at 95 mph!!!
Also, here's more info on this particular spider. It's big, but harmless (unless one jumps on you like one did me when I was a child warning: long texty story about childhood and arachnophobia)
WolfDaddy, one of my friends handed me a picture of her dashboard once. She was all excited. I never noticed until she pointed out her odometer. It had reached 123,456.7 miles.
Would strange nature pictures qualify? Such as a tree that looks like it has a face? Or bald blue jays?
