Groovy day out →[More:]I went to Buckingham Palace today with my friend Nancy (who is 75 but has more energy than I'll ever have).
I enjoyed it far more than I thought I would, being an anti-royalist and all, but it was great. We arrived in time to see the
Changing of the Guard, and then we went into the gallery to see the Royal Collection (including a
Fabergé bunny with diamond eyes). There were some incredibly beautiful things there, as well as some stuff that was just a bit, well,
Michael Jackson, if you know what I mean.
There was a wonderful
exhibition of the Queen's ballgowns and some of her jewellery, dating from the 1940s right through to the present day.
No pictures allowed inside the Palace, but I did sneak one of the
ladies' loo.
Then we went for tea at The Ritz, where we had cucumber sandwiches, scones with jam & cream, and fancy cakes, followed by a walk up Bond Street, where we had our picture taken with
FDR and Winston Churchill.
