Hmph. random low level anxiety attack happening right now! I get them sometimes for days on end and generally ignore them.[More:]
Don't worry I'm okay. Will go play Oblivion or something shortly, killing necromancers and bandits is usually a pleasant distraction.
Ooo! Good luck! I have found that exercising into muscle fatigue helps me sleep when these happen.

I usually just drink.

Deep breathing!

Anxiety attacks tend to compound themselves when you start breathing shallowly, I've found. Less oxygen available, your body stresses more, bad feedback loop.

I get those all the time. GTA is my medicine of choice.

what you need is to drink some string coffee and smoke a bunch of cigarettes, stimulating your body into an even more anxious state. it will then naturally try to right itself by delivering you it's anti-stimulants, thereby fully correcting the situation.

of course, i totally made that up because I am addicted to coffee and cigarettes

actually drink strong coffee, not string coffee

I find a walk helps sometimes... and a hot fudge sundae. : )

Hope ya feel better!

I'm with Miko - after I was prescribed an inhaler for asthma, I found that a hit off that would usually help out my anxiety problems. I think it's the forced breathing regulation.

I agree with deep breathing. At a meditation teaching we were taught to do eleven breaths, only you start at eleven and count down and you count on the out-breath... maybe you count on whatever breath you normally wouldn't, you know?

For me, both the abnormal counting breath sequence and the counting down instead of up created like a dual focus thing that became habit after a while- once I did it for a while my mind learned to recognize it as a vacation. ymmv.

some days valerian root helps too

Hey, I've been having the same thing. I worry that my meds aren't working too well.

Mowing the lawn and exercise have helped some.

Other than that, wait it out, I guess.

I second (third?) the exercise thing, followed by a soak in a hot bath, or a pummelling with a power shower as hot as you can stand it.

Walking, drinking water, remembering that this too shall pass, telling yourself that if it was really a heart attack you'd already be dead, and fish oil every day.

Marijuana.

Or gravol.

Step 1: Gently but thoroughly spank the bunny.
Step 2: Have a nice little nap.

Wash, rinse, repeat.

what's gravol?

Marijuana often works but is impossible to find these days.

Gravol is over-the-counter and used to prevent carsickness/seasickness in kids (and adults). It's also sometimes given to pediatric patients to calm them down/settle their nerves when they go see the doctor and need a blood draw or something.

Kicks in in about 10-15 minutes (for me), settles my anxiety (and nausea; I sometimes get bad nausea when I'm nervous/apprehensive). Side effects; a *little* bit drowsy, sometimes.

Sorry to hear about your difficulty in obtaining buds. Then again, the psychoactive properties are sometimes undesireable. On the gripping hand, a miniscule amount (ingested by vapourization) solves stomach upsets (with either physical or psychological causes)for me 19 times out of 20 with minimal or undetectable psychoactive or depressive effects.
