Weekly Project Runway post (spoilers) Man, I love it when Tim Gunn gets bitchy.[More:]

I have no words for Jeffrey, other than, "You dick." It's bad enough he was mean and paranoid. And then (in the podcast) Tim said he padded his dressform to make it more like Angela's mom's proportions? Okay, necessary, but also a bit mean.

I do feel for him because he's a recovering alcoholic. But it doesn't give him the right to act like a tool.

Also, Vincent wins. And it's snowing in hell. And the Pope is eating bear shit in the woods.

I am so freaking glad that Vincent will not have immunity next week.
Angela's mom reminded me a bit of my mom, which made me all the more mad at Jeffrey. What a jerk.

I've missed some of the other PR threads, so this may have been mentioned before, but - for Pete's sake, why does Vincent feel the need to leave his shirt unbuttoned halfway down his chest? Eww. And last week he said, "It turns me on" and "It gets me off" so often I almost hurled.

Maybe for the same reason why Laura feels compelled to show off her chest so often, too?

amro, you must listen to Tim Gunn's podcast. Even when Tim Gunn is saying it (to paraphrase Vincent) it doesn't sound good.

I think Uli should have won.

And I couldn't believe how Jeffrey was talking to Angela's mother. Dickhead.

Uli definitely should have won. But I think they're setting Vincent up for a fall.

And Jeffrey should have lost. Robert's outfit may have been boring, but it didn't look bad and his model was happy with it. Jeffrey's outfit looked like a choir robe, and Angela's mom wasn't happy with it at all. If it were the real world, he'd have been fired.

I love in the podcast when Tim talks about how vulgar Vincent is. You just know that vulgarity must be #1 on Tim's seven deadly sins.
posted by gaspode 24 August | 10:29
I wonder what the other deadly sins are:

1. Being boring.
2. Not making it work.
3. Being vulgar.
4. Being Daniel Franco.
5. Being Vincent Libretti.
6. ???

Jeffrey was a bastard and he keeps playing the recovering addict card. Getting on my nerves.

Angela's mother was a very sweet woman, at least on the surface. She's also scathingly honest and pulls no punches...no sugar coating with that one. I have to say, in Jeffrey's defense though, that for one thing, Tim shouldn't have questioned her without Jeffrey being there (the first time) because it seemed like they were conspiring, and for another thing, it was unthinking of her to announce half way through the day that she didn't like what Jeffrey was doing, and that she'd like to have it changed. I got the impression that she felt that she was putting in an order for an outfit and that he should make exactly what she wanted. That's always death to a designer on PR, as the judges tell them over and over that they have to respect the client but put themselves into the design and reinterpret what the client wants, on their own design terms. I felt that Jeffrey was trying to do that, but he was a total dick about it, especially when he said he wished she would go away. Ass.

Hmm I guess I have mixed feelings about both of them. I can see why Jeffrey got his back up - he already wasn't thrilled with the idea of working with Angela's mother, and then he probably felt that she was trying to sabotage him (and maybe she was, a little...). But he was acting like a dick towards her. As for her, the crying made me feel for her but it also kind of disgusted me that she acted like that - it put a lot of stress on her own daughter, who was already under a ton herself. Angela had to keep placating her and soothing her, and I'm sure she had better things to do and think about. Buck up, Mom, and reign in the waterworks....geez. As Santino says, "It's only fashion"!

I sound like a bitch. Oh well. They both got on my nerves.

The outfit Jeffrey designed for her was atrocious, and just....there are no words. She looked ridiculous. She looked like a pregnant penguin nun. It was horrible. He should have gone home.

As for her, she admitted that she had body issues, and wanted to be pretty much totally covered. Why come on the show as a model, then? I would have stayed home and let another female member of the family do it. She just looked unhappy to be there from the very beginning, when they all walked out, and seemed miserable the whole time she was there.

Thank god this is the only show I watch, huh?

1. Being boring.
2. Not making it work.
3. Being vulgar.
4. Being Daniel Franco.
5. Being Vincent Libretti.
6. Eating at Red Lobster with Andre

I also thought Angela's mom was being a bit histrionic, though I can understand not wanting to appear on TV in something that makes you look awful.

On a meta note: I didn't read these Project Runway threads for weeks because of the "spoiler" alert. Once an episode has aired, are they really spoilers any more? I assumed y'all were reading gossip sites and getting info about *next* week's shows.

I get your points, iconomy, but man, you just shouldn't make another contestant's mom cry. That's very bad luck.

My favorite part was when Angela asked Laura's mom, "Do you like v-necks?" That cracked me up.

Or her sternum, anyway.

I got the impression that this was the first time the models saw the designers' work since the morning; if that's the case, it would have been her first opportunity to give feedback.

Anyone else notice that Jeffrey said he didn't want to try to make a jacket, and then made one anyway?

Is that what that was? It looked like a vest. I honestly couldn't tell what it was because of the way it all blended it because everything was so dark. And hideous. And breathtakingly repulsive. I was hornswaggled by ugly.
posted by iconomy 24 August | 11:34
It appeared to be a black vest over a navy blue dress. Yuck-o.

I suspect that the reason Robert was booted instead of Jeffrey was that they knew there would be a lot of tension between Jeffrey and Angela following that competition. I think they were thinking more of the drama that would be created by keeping them both than of the quality of the designs.

I think it was on Tim's podcast (may be wrong, but I read or listened to it somewhere) where it was stated that the family members didn't know why they were being invited to the show. They definitely didn't know they would have to get up on the catwalk.

Jeffrey is so so paranoid, though. Why would Tim, of all people, be conspiring with Angela's mom?

I definitely thought Uli's outfit should have won. I did not like the collar on Vincent's outfit. I liked Kayne's outfit a lot too, even if the judges hated it. Angela's wasn't as bad as they said either, though I was not so into the fringe. Jeffrey's outfit was hideous and he should have gone. I am going to miss Robert!

Laura's mother looks just like her, except she's nicer. I loved Michael Kors' mother. I wish Heidi's and Nina's moms had shown up too. : )

The bravotv.com preview backs that up -- they're still going to be arguing about her Mom, and Jeffrey's extra mean. I can see I'm going to have to tape that episode and ff through that bit. I can't bear to hear them argue any more.

Wow, can you imagine? I'm pretty sure there is no way in effing hell that anyone could talk me into modeling on national television. That sounds pretty much like one of my nightmares come to life. The only thing that could possibly be worse would be modeling naked. Or modeling one of Vincent's outfits!

Speaking of, his outfit this week, while not completely off the wall like usual, certainly wasn't winner material. The collar was very awkward - I can't believe no judge mentioned it - it looked like batwings. And the fabric, whatever it was, wrinkled and creased badly in the thigh area, from sitting, I guess. It didn't look well made. It was definitely not winner material. Ulli's was nice, but blah to me. Angela's fringe thing was kind of cool, and she had that rosette thing going on again. Ulli's mom seemed very happy wearing it. If Michael had used a different belt (his belt was mind-bogglingly bad) I would have given him the win for the 3rd week in a row, or possibly given the win to Angela. Nothing I saw on the runway said "fashion forward" to me. Last night's show was a low for the whole series, I thought. The clothes were just atrocious, ill-fitting, unflattering, unimaginative, and fucking ugly.

And Tim Gunn needs to have my babies!

Really? I really liked the collar on Vincent's. I thought it was kinda 70s/80s retro, in a good way, since the color combo was reasonably sophisticated.

Though I also thought that's the outfit he should have made when he was designing for Twiggy. To me, it had that playful retro European thing going on.

I'm a bit upset about the show this season. Last season, it wasn't so obvious that they were keeping people around for "good TV". Santino did win one and his final collection proved to me that he belonged there. Vincent, however... There is nothing good (mostly) about what Vincent designs. At least nothing that makes him better than Alison, at the very least.

Some people did deserve to go, like Bonnie and Stacey. They didn't wow me off the bat like the other designers I like (Laura, Michael, Kayne) did/do. Since I love Barbies, I had a huge hope for Robert, but no... maybe he needs to get more experience in designing for non-plastic women before he can have a go again.

It's *spoilers* for people like me, who don't watch it live, but I don't really care.

BTW, some of the bonus video (on the Bravo.tv website) from the Jersey Trash episode are Gunn-ilicious. In one long video, when all the contestants are in the van, Tim and Robert are totally drooling over some movie diva (I think???) - you know, "I absolutely ADORE her." "Oh I know, she's so DIVINE." etc etc. while Jeffrey rolls his eyes in the front seat.
posted by muddgirl 24 August | 17:04
I didn't get to watch it until just now, because I was at the opera pretty late last night. Then TiVo cut off the last 3 minutes but luckily Bravo was re-running it at the same time so I rewatched the last 15 minutes live.

Anyway, they've never mentioned Jeffrey's past before but the way they were playing it up, I thought he was getting the Auf edit (especially since there was no special edits about Robert). But when it was down to the 2 of them I realized they would keep Jeffrey for drama. Also, just because someone is a recovering addict or whatever doesn't give them an excuse to be a total jerk. Get into therapy already or something.

Did Vincent's sister seem like a real depressive? At first I thought she was maybe estranged from Vincent and not happy to see him, but then she was glum through the whole thing.

Uli should have won. Jeffrey should have lost. Michael still kicks ass. The photos of the chubby little homosexual child Kayne were kind of endearing, and I'm glad his mom really loves him.

My predictions for top 3: Uli, Michael, and wildcard. Laura is the most skillful constructionist of who's left, but I think she will get Auf'ed late on for being too one-note, like Austin Scarlett.

I just watched the Runway portion again and I have to say, Angela's mom has tons of class the way she walked down the runway happy with herself even though she hated that monstrosity of a dress.

And Tim Gunn's podcast gave me a new phrase that I have to work into conversation somehow: "fashion bitchslap".
